i didnt like the great gatsby. the movie was worse.

the grapes of wrath. it sucked only becuase it was so dense. but other than that, it was an good book.

LOL. Which one?

C'mon. You can't hate Shakespeare or The Odyssey/Illiad! That is so not allowed.

Livin' on the edge, yo. Livin' on the edge. ;)

Siddhartha-just felt the point was poor and the book was to stupid to care about.
Shakespear - uses to much cheap humor and plots are highly predictable.

Some of you people are making me crazy with the books you hate! lol.

I second The Perks of Being a Wallflower- it's definitely the favorite book of hipster kids who don't read. Not real literature at all.

Same goes for the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons. Sure, they're entertaining, but man are they awfully written.

matt- of course shakespeare is predictable, because we've been bombarded our whole lives with the stuff referencing his work. but he's the original, man:)

Their Eyes Were Watching God/Hurston - Just bad.

Romeo & Juliet - I adore Shakespeare, but honestly, I'm in high school; I hear enough overzealous teenagers *****ing about their love lives
+The DaVinci Code/Dan Brown - mildly entertaining but poorly written

LOTR/Tolkein - I forced myself to read to page 50 and couldn't take any more. Sorry.

Narnia/Lewis - Christian allegory makes me want to spoon my eyes out.

Shadow Puppets/Orson Scott Card - I love this man's work but the "let's stop being cool military leaders and have babies instead!" thing did not sit well with me.

Really liked Speak, btw - ah well. Everyone in my English class loathed the awakening, but I adored it; same with A Tale of Two Cities and Lord of the Flies.

I hate anything Shakespeare, always have and always will, and The Pearl by John Steinbeck (It probably wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to read it for 3 consecutive school years.)

I Hate Waterland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a tree grows in brooklyn is my favorite book!!

ok, and i second (third? fourth?) a catcher in the rye. the entire thing is full of "helluvas" and other repetitive, obnoxious catch phrases. OH MY GOD I hated it!

what about this one?:
the misanthrope
we had to read it for AP Lit, and i nearly screamed with boredom.

if anyone touches the poisonwood bible, i'd probably quit CC
and that's saying a lot.

AHA! I'd forgotten about The Pearl.

I'll have to second Frankenstein. I gave it 4 chances. But no.. I still cant even finish 1/4 of the book.

Prep, and The perks of being a wallflower - horrible. horrible. horrible. horrible. horrible. horrible. horrible.

And i've never READ any shakespeare's stuff. thank god.

and I hated that book.. the adventures of huck finn? I cant remember if that's the correct title.

Ceremony by Leslie Marmon Silko. When you open this book, it is 1 page with this: "Sunrise." 2 1/2 pages later, the narrative starts. You seriously have blank pages in there. And, oh, the last one is blank too, except for the middle of the page: "Sunrise, accept this offering, sunrise." I had to read it for English and I have no idea what actually happened in the novel.

Also loathe Dan Brown. Terrible entertainment. Robert Ludlum was a much, much better writer than Brown could ever dream of being, and he was just writing about assassins.

Their Eyes Were Watching God is absolutely pointless. I do love the last line, though. I just abhor the plot.

tennisdude: You're amazing. Everyone go read that book NOW.

Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

heart of darkness
brave new world

Definitely not a fan of Angels and Demons/DaVinci Code... they're like the same book... written like a comic....

Also didn't like The Great Gatsby. ALL of the characters annoyed me, minus Nick, and Nick is just boring. However, I do like Fitzgerald's writing so I want to read something else by him...

I thought Freakonomics was kind of overrated.

DESPISED The Lovely Bones.

Heart of Darkness- muffled scream...man...Sparknotes is a LIFESAVER

Silas Marner- the most boring book on earth...I swear it is...I'm SO surprised no one has mentioned it yet...absolutely HORRIBLE...once again Sparknotes saved my a$$...just thinking about that book makes me cringe...

Beloved- This book is SO confusing

As I Lay Dying- This book was just...weird...

I also HATE Shakespeare...

I'm sure there's more

ack i loved the great gatsby, we read it right after turn of the screw so i guess anything was good by comparison.
-oedipus rex/antigone/whatever the other one is called
-narnia/those hobbit books
-dracula
-odyssey (i couldnt even get through the sparknotes it was that bad)

^^oh yea Turn of the Screw sucked also
