Books?

My bill came out to be about $420 for used, and nearly $550 for new...that was rather depressing.

Does anyone know if this is the right book for writing 39B, the little penguin one? Since they don't put editions and what not...grr.

Half.com / Books / The Little Penguin Handbook

When should I buy the books? Wait for classes to start and see what the profs recommend, or should I go ahead and buy what the UCI Book Store says now?

My bill comes to:
$284 used (various sites) - not including online registrations and such.
$324 used (UCI Book Store)
$415 New (UCI Book Store)

Edit: NVM, I saw SFs post on the first page. Wait for the Profs.

Also one problem I've noted with buying from other sites is that it doesn't include the online things.

For example I can find my Econ Book for $25 (not including tax/shipping) on ebay, but the APLIA Online thing is $70 anyways (Combined $108 at the bookstore).

Also, for Math2A wth is MathZone? I can get the book for $45, but it says nothing about mathzone, whereas the UCI Bookstore has it packaged.

yo hockey how did you find used book stuff on the uci bookstore site???

panda.. use the coursebooks function where you can search the books and find used.

some books aren't available used but still haev a used price, so you will get hosed there.

my bill comes down to less than $150 this quarter i think. Found my ochem book and bio book for around 35-40 bucks on ebay when tehyre over 100 each at the bookstore.

I dunno if I did it 'wrong', as my friend says, but I ordered my books today. Ordered like 70 bucks worth on amazon, some used, some new just because the cost to ship a used would make it like a few cents away from a new, and then spent 120 at the UCI store for the hum books i can't get elsewhere and 2 books i couldn't get cheaper elsewhere. My friend told me by reserving the ones from UCI I would be stuck with a crappy version automatically..

another question! lol i searched up books for Math 2A and Writing 39A and underneath each book name theres a professor name and says required.. what if none of those are my professors do i still get books or ? and if i do get books what do i get..

man... i should really just buy my books at amazon or ebay
my bill would come out to be almost $400 if all my books were used, $500 if all new from the bookstore.
they make one hell of a business....

panda.. don't they have a general one for all the math 2a and writing 39a classes?

it says STAFF -- all classes, doesn't it?

yeah you guys should go ebay all the way. Probably can save at least 80 bucks off of every book. I'm getting them new too. My book total this quarter comes to about $125 but i still need to get an iclicker.

You mentioned that we shouldn't order books until we have gone to the first day of class, but wouldn't that be too late, since the books take a few days to come?
and we won't need it on the first day?

find out by asking other students

For CSE you lucked out

For the whole year you only need ONE math book, the fat red calculus book for 2A, 2B, 2D

For the whole year for physics, you only need ONE textbook and 2 Lab books

For CSE you will need one for CSE21 (Java Concepts , Cay horstmann), one for CSE 22/23 (Data Structures and Algorithms , Goodrich).

Writing depends on your professor

I am trying to order books from other sites like ebay, but on the uci bookstore site all it says is title and author. There is no version/edition, etc.

How do I know if the book I found on ebay is the exact same one that I need???

I have that same problem, strawybrry242. I don't know what exactly to look for!

Edit: I looked back on the previous page.

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/4627275-post5.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/4627275-post5.html</a> , that worked! I now have the ISBN to the books I need.

How come they dont just give you the ISBN number of the books? Where do you get that from? I checked the online bookstore UCI and they are no ISBN numbers they don't even give a proper title for the book.

Also for online searching of books use fetch book. [url=<a href="http://www.fetchbook.info/%5DFetchBook">http://www.fetchbook.info/]FetchBook</a> - New & Used Books - Find the Lowest Price/url it searches all popular online bookstores and allows you to compare them at one place. However you need an ISBN number or a proper title of the book to find the books.

jinks: look at the thread that phamous linked in the post above yours. it tells you how to find the ISBN.
