oregonmom, it is better not to order these things. It only makes for more to carry to NYC (especially a lot of books!... that will take up a lot of space). Your daughter could buy the things once she gets to NYU as she needs them.

Especially regarding the books, it is best NOT to buy the books all at once before classes begin. Rather, buy them as they are needed. Some of the books will not even be used, and many can be checked out of the library.

I bought a powerbook from the nyu bookstore and it arrived about a week after I ordered it. I live in Florida though, so it might be faster for you. If you have any other questions feel free to post here.

Thanks DanielJ- Good advice, I was able to cancel the order. Especially glad to know some books are available in the library. Now more room for clothes!

Uhmmmm, you probably shouldn't have listened to Daniel. I just ordered my books online, and granted I live 20 min away from school, so it isn't a big deal to lug them to the dorms for me, but the bookstore charges INSANE prices, and it would be best NOT to wait til you get to NYC to buy them here. It's a known fact that prices here in the city are higher than elsewhere in general. trust me, I know.

couldn't i order my books on amazon after i move in? cuz then they would be delivered to my dorm and they are cheaper. im coming from california and there is NO WAY i can buy my books now and bring them with me to school.

once you know what books you want, i'd recommend nyu.dogears.net to buy direct from other students, cutting out the middleman. this is a lot cheaper than any bookstore.
