Hi guys , I have just been admitted to CAS , however i want to apply for an internal transfer to CSOM. Does anyone know the process and how difficult it is . I have seen other threads for the similar question but they are around 4 to 8 years old. Thank You for your help
Accepted!
SATs: 2190 (650 M, 760 W, 780 CR)
GPA: 95.80/100
@xyzabc11234 Im a current sophomore at BC, wasting time before class starts for today. Ideally you should have applied directly into CSOM, as its prestige is a slight tier above the other schools (stricter admissions criteria, slight better ranking, etc). Boston College has become pretty aware of this increased demand for CSOM and thus accepts incredibly slim numbers (I.e. Sub-5) every year as internal transfers. I don’t believe CSOM accepts external transfers at all, because everyone who comes usually remains in the program. Also, I believe the few internal transfers are usually very special cases. You can, however, take a business relevant major outside of CSOM, such as economics or math, and minor in management and leadership, which is the only CSOM minor offered, assuming you hold a 3.5+ GPA in your first semesters here.
Hope this helped. If anyone else has any questions concerning student life or really anything, I’m a male sophomore in CSOM and I’d be happy to help. I have this account tied to my email so it shouldn’t take me too long to get back to you. Just make sure to @ me in your replies so I get the notification.
For whoever didn’t get an email like I did (checked spam too), I called the office and they said the missing emails will be sent next week. Got my decision hopes up for nothing
@xyzabc11234. When we toured BC last Spring we were told no one had left CSOM the prior 3 years and discouraged hoping to get in via an internal transfer. Hope this helps.
Do people that get into the honors college usually receive merit aid? About how much?
@nsliyromanov No merit aid is awarded at BC. It is all need based financial aid with the exception being the Gabelli Presidential Scholars program that has already been decided on. Also they do not provide financial aid to international students.
@Yankxy BC is my match too!
do we get to put in a preference for newton or upper campus?
Dear coll123456 : You can specifically request Newton, but you cannot request Upper Campus. The only way to secure Upper Campus housing is to be part of the Honors Program and accept housing at Medeiros.
does anyone know when the housing application goes live?
@crazylegs12 March 21st
Do students who pay their deposit before March 21st have an advantage in choosing classes and housing?
@coll123456 No priority for housing, except for Honors getting Upper. Everyone picks classes during orientation.
@PickyParent No, I applied to Morrisey, but I saw earlier posts in this thread from CSOM people who also got into the honors program, so it seems that honors notification would be in the letter.
Very.
CSOM only has so many spaces.
@scottj While your first points were true, to the best of my knowledge, you can also voluntarily opt for a forced triple, if you’re hell-bent on going to upper campus
Did the presidential scholarship come out? when does financial aid come out?
I applied RD for undecided and was rejected. I have a 3.75 UW/ 4.61 W GPA and stellar grades with 7 AP courses (all with A’s) but my SAT score was an 1800 (super scored) because I’m a horrible test taker (especially standardized tests). I am a Silver Knight Candidate from Florida, a Hispanic female, and have 1300+ community service hours. I also got declined from Boston University and Northeastern. All the other colleges that I applied to were reaches: Tulane, Brown, Dartmouth, UVA. So I basically got into 0 of my colleges. I have some safety schools that I applied to, but they are not my ideal colleges. It seems they will be my only options. I’m devastated because I have literally worked my butt off for 4 years and to no success. At all. I was not even wait-listed, just flat out rejected. Idk what to do at this point but to leave it all in God’s hands.
@goldenchina Going to a safety or state school for a few semesters and transferring is always a viable option. You could end up saving a lot of money.
