Does anyone know when financial aid will come out? And if you applied and they don’t give you anything, will you get notified that you won’t be getting aid?
I read FA last year came out 1/25 so 4th Thursday in January.
@2mrmagoo thanks for that link!
FYI, there is a minor mistake in the article and since it is admissions related, I thought I would point it out.
It mentions that Georgetown (in the paragraph it discusses other school’s EA options) has standard EA. This actually is not the case. Their EA is the same as Notre Dame’s (and what BC used to have up until this year) which is RESTRICTIVE. This means that you cannot apply EA if you are applying to any other school ED. Georgetown just doesn’t call it “restrictive” but it’s the same exact policy.
BC’s early stats are unbelievably high. Makes me worry for my son for next year. But I’m impressed with the caliber of students they accepted. Cream of the crop it seems!
My letter says to expect something late January but I saw a post from someone else who’s letter specifically said 1/27. The 27th is a Sunday so Friday the 25th seems likely.
Opened my portal this morning and the Financial Aid link was active! I was even happier when I read it. Looks like I need to make a trip to Boston.
For my daughter (applied EA)
Decision: Deferred
SAT: 1430
GPA: 3.99 UW; 4.7W
Applied for FA: yes
Home Stated: KY
Major: Political Science
10 APs; KY Governor Scholar; NHS; lots of ECs and good essays; we were not able to visit
@ProudMominKY I’m assuming your daughter did NOT have legacy? Not that that alone would have done it, but I’m just curious.
I got my financial aid package today. Basically nothing
@collegemomjam She is not a legacy.
BC just announced today they are adding ED I and ED II next year. Might be instead of EA. They don’t mention that EA will still be an option.
Boston College will be implementing Early Decision I and II beginning this fall. This will replace our previous Early Action policy. https://www.bc.edu/earlydecision
No word on the agora site for financials. Maybe tonight?
@eastcoast2023 it’s up. sign into your account through portal.bc.edu and then hit “financial aid award notification”
Ugh. Nothing on his portal yet. Everything was submitted early, and nothing is missing. Should I call?
BC is exceedingly thrifty with $$$$…don’t get your hopes too high.
My hopes weren’t high but BC came through with a $55,500/year scholarship!
@T20hopeful2023 that is amazing! Congratulations!!!
BC meets full financial need. Except for Gabelli there are no non athletic scholarships. Use the net cost calculator and don’t forget home equity is considered an includable and available set of funds in the calculation. It shouldn’t be a huge surprise in either direction. And they are not stingy. That’s a myth.
Thought I could post my Early Action decision/stats here for those who could find it useful.
Decision: Deferred.
Major: Finance at CSOM.
SAT I: 1490 Superscore (700 RW, 790 M). Turns out they never received my superscore. They received my 1430 I scored back in August instead. I made sure my 1490 was sent last month.
SAT IIs (was not sent in time for EA, but it was sent for RD): Math 2 (710), USH (700).
GPA: 4.2 W (couple Bs junior year … def. hurt me).
Essays: Honestly, they were pretty bad. I’m not proud of them. Thank God I improved my essays a lot over the holiday break.
ECs: Started my own business, president of a special needs organization, head language academy instructor, FBLA officer, etc.
Recs: Probably just okay.
Female, Asian, first generation, super low income.
Reflection: I initially thought BC was a match, I did not expect EA to be this competitive. I’m looking forward to RD decisions though. I wrote a LOCI as soon as I got my deferred letter, and my senior year grades are solid thankfully.
Good luck to the RD applicants and the current juniors. Let’s pray for the best results!
CSOM needs more females. Good luck!
