I thought I would start a thread for students who are wanting to go to Boston College in Fall 2016. It would be nice to compare stats, discuss things you are doing to improve your resume, how your application is going, etc., and of course it would be nice to be a sort of support system for each other.
I’m currently a first-year at a local community college (ranked #4 in the country, I think). I’m a Political Science major. I’ve been volunteering for a presidential campaign and I’ve joined a local party club. Hoping to start volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross, etc.
I am a current freshman at UNH. I am enrolled in the University Honors Program and I earned a 4.0 last semester. I have earned 32 credits (16 from APs) which technically makes me a sophomore. I work as a research assistant 10-15 hours a week as well as go home to work on the weekends.
In high school I was the salutatorian (very small school) but I had a 4.0, was a three sport athlete (captain for two), class president, NHS vice president and participated in a variety of clubs (French Club, HMC, etc).
I applied last year, undeclared, and was deferred, waitlisted, then not accepted off the wait list. I’m hoping I have a good shot this year, I’m applying into the nursing program, have a solid application with good references from two professors and hopefully another good GPA. Any ideas on my chances? I really appreciate any feedback!
I was wait listed and not accepted last year too! It sounds like you have a good shot and I think reapplying shows determination. Your GPA sounds pretty good as well as your involvement in clubs.
Anyone know how important midterm grade reports are in the application? My GPA first semester was a 2.9 but because of one low class. My midterm grade report has me around a 3.6
Dear TransferThoughts334 : While more goes into an acceptance than solely GPA, ignoring the 2.9 results, a 3.6 is usually not sufficient for transfer from a lower ranked school. Figure it this way : Boston College can find a number of A- and B+ students from High Schools if they were so inclined. Unless you have a compelling reason to transfer (other than “I really like Boston College”) expressed in your application, those numbers alone will eliminate your candidacy.
I don’t think the 3.6 is as big of a problem since the average is a 3.5. However, a 2.9 GPA wouldn’t look too good. Was there a reasonable explanation for it?
@TransferThoughts334 oh ok! Accounting (from what I’ve heard) is a difficult class so they might be more considerate. What kind of institution are you transferring from (CC, university, etc) and how does it compare to BC?
@caitlynn09 I received an email with a link and temporary password. You just follow the prompts and set up your own password. If you don’t receive it by the end of this week I would call admissions. Best of luck to you. Which school within BC are u applying?
@hopefultransferstudnt7996 I called them when I sent in my application and they said it was in so hopefully they do send that email soon. I’m applying to the College of Arts & Sciences as a Political Science major. What about you?
@hopefultransferstudnt7996 sorry to bug you with another question but what does it say next to your BC app on CommonApp? Submitted or downloaded or what?
not bugging me at all! It has a green checkmark underneath application and a green checkmark underneath writing supplement. When I click on Boston College it says “submitted” with the date submitted next to it and lets me click on a PDF version of my application.
