@class0f2017 I think you have a great chance! Great GPA and scores! BC CSOM is awesome! My daughter is a sophomore there and she is not only getting a fabulous education but she is really building a strong network with companies via the recruiters that come to campus (many, many do!). As a parent, I really feel that I am getting my money’s worth! Good luck I really think you are a strong candidate and I bet your passion for BC showed through in your essays!
@class0f2017 3 EA decisions in one day?? That’s a stressful day! Good luck to you. You will be fine.
@class0f2017 are you talking about BC, Georgetown, and Northeastern?
Just a quick question. I’ve been hearing this a lot lately. Is it true that being Asian is a hook for BC?
Hi guys!! With the EA decisions coming out I would love to know your opinions on my chances of being selected!!
Asian female, not sure if that plays to my favor or not?
My school does not do class rankings, nor do they offer APs, however, our seminars are AP equivalent.
My GPA is a 4.03 unweighted and a 4.33 weighted.
My ACT is a 32 with a 35 in the reading and a 34 in the writing.
I have taken the highest level of each course available to me with a highly rigorous schedule. Including 5 math credits. 4 social sciences. 4 foreign language. 4 English. 5 science. 5 arts. I’m
I have over 250 logged hours of community service, employment, and consistency in music, community service, and academic extracurriculars on my resume.
I have a strong common app and supplemental essay.
I do not have legacy, but I have been in touch with my state rep.
I applied to the college of arts and sciences.
Please let me know, and good luck to all this week. Go Eagles!
@jadoherty I think you have a good chance. I don’t know about the Asian hook…honestly, I don’t think BC takes minority status into account as much as some of the other schools. I think they will truly look at your application holistically. I don’t think being Asian will HURT you, but not sure it will give you any advantage either. But sounds like you have a strong application!
@collegemomjam Thank you! Hope your daughter is enjoying BC and best of luck to her!
@paveyourpath Thanks! Hoping for the best is all I can do now.
@1zogden1 Yep, Georgetown is definitely on the 15th and Northeastern should be if it is truly one week after ED. Boston College is just a guess, but Nov 15 seems to be a popular date. Also looking at Villanova and Ohio State coming out this week. Ohio State comes out every Friday and I think I have a good chance to hear this Friday and I’m just guessing that Villanova will be coming out later this week too. Very stressful week indeed!
@Sexyaznninja The only reason I think Asian might be a hook because BC is not very diverse in general. They also include Asian when talking about diversity stats(AHANA) and while their Asian population is still technically over represented, its not at the level of other schools of its caliber. Nobody can say for sure if it helps or not, but at the very least it does not hurt as much as say ivy leagues, etc.
@Sexyaznninja No it is not a hook.
CSOM
^ it could go either way, possibly deferred.
Does legacy really help for Boston College? I feel like I could possibly get deferred since my GPA is good but my test score is in the lower 50%. My family has been really generous to BC and I was able to interview with a professor… Does this help my chances or do they not really care?
I think legacy helps. You still have to have strong stats, but it was once described to me by admissions as “a feather in your cap” to have legacy. How much lower than the 50% might be the bigger issue though. If BC is a top choice and you might be deferred, maybe you can take the test again this winter? They may consider it if you automatically send them the score.
I am an alum and I have a sophomore there now. All I can tell you is that when we were at orientation last summer, there were all of these legacy receptions. I have never been a prouder alum. They made us feel so special to have children attending. They had the marching band come and play the fight song at a BC legacy reception for parents and their children. I was overwhelmed with BC pride and emotion. Based on that experience, I would say legacy matters.
@collegemomjam this is really good to hear! both my Mum, Dad, and my Uncle went to BC and I think it would be a difficult Christmas to endure if I were to be rejected… Crossing my fingers!!
Legacy status, especially if your parent is an active supporter, is a significant advantage at BC. You still need to be “qualified”, i.e. gpa and test scores at or above 25% of accepted students, but if so, BC admissions has acknowledged that legacy applicants are reviewed in a separate admissions pile.
Yes, and legacy ONLY counts if your parents went there. I think years ago it included grandparents but now just parents.
Hi everyone! I am extremely anxious waiting for BC decision… It’s my absolute favorite school (I would have clicked that ED button without hesitation if they offered it!) Would anyone mind giving me their honest opinion on my chances?
I applied to the school of arts and sciences as undeclared, and I am a white female with no legacy.
2080 OLD SAT (CR 630, M 680, W 770)
1400 NEW SAT (R/W 710, M 690) <-- I took it WITH the essay and got a perfect score on it.
4.0 UW GPA
Course load this year includes: AP Calculus BC, AP Physics, AP Micro/Macro Economics, AP Literature, Spanish VH
Marching band (Section leader of the 18 flutes this year)
Varsity Crew
Volunteer (mostly through my school’s Key Club which I have been very active in all four years)
Math (secretary), science (recording secretary), English (treasurer), and history honor societies
Throughout early October I emailed back an forth a bit with my region’s admissions counselor (who was very nice) and I made it clear that BC is my top choice. Do you think she will remember my name and that BC is my favorite school or is that complete wishful thinking?
Good luck to everyone, I know we are all feeling the stress right about now!!
Hey guys, I want to wish everyone luck as we await to hear back from BC! I was wondering if anyone else is applying into the Connell School of Nursing as well? Again, good luck and don’t let the stress get to you.
I’m getting really nervous about getting into BC. It’s my number 1 right now but I think my scores/ gpa are a little week. Do you guys think I have a shot? (I applied to arts and sciences)
Gpa (out of 4.0, unweighted); 3.83
ACT (superscored); 32
AP classes;
AP us history
AP lit
AP Lang
AP chem
AP French
AP calc AB
Both of my parents went to BC, so I’m a legacy. Also my work supervisor wrote me a letter of recommendation and her father donated csom. I don’t know if that’ll have any influence though.
What time should we expect an email with our decision?
@mtinchicago the mail said that the results will be out during the second part of this week… so probably the earliest we can hope for is the 15th.
