**boston college rd 2021 discussion thread**

Okay so now that I have calmed down, I’ll post my stats.

Decision: Accepted
1120 SAT
3.807 weighted/3.5 (and some numbers lol) unweighted on a 5.0 scale
5 AP Classes

25 in my graduating class

I’m from a very low income household (12k a year), one of 7, and I attend the second worst school in NJ (or something like that, its definitely one of the last 5). The school district is not home to high crime rates or anything, it’s just that we are a failing school district. Mostly because there is a large immigration population (mostly from Dominican Republic) who speak very little English and are not equipped for American school standards (In DR, unless you attended a private school, your education is usually not good). This mixed with a corrupt board of ed and administration, it’s hard to meet state standards esp with the implementation of PARCC.
I’m not one to brag (and I hope it doesn’t come off as such), but I’m very involved in the community…at least I was. I was just so busy this year because I’m working (20-25 hours a week) that it was just becoming overwhelming. So I decided to relax a bit. Some clubs I’m apart of: Debate (captain 3 years), Tennis (varsity 2, captain senior year), Student Council (VP last year), Class Council (President as a freshmen, VP sophomore year), swim (varsity 2 years), National Honors Society (3 years), English Honors Society (3 years), Italian Honors Society (2 years), Big Brothers Big Sister, Youth in Action (a program about making changes in the community and we present at Rutgers, 5 years).,and those are the main ones. I did a couple of other stuff but I was not as involved tbh.

So that was basically my application and my essay I would personally give a 3/10 because I think I could have written it much better. But according to friends and my AP lang and lit teachers, it was very good (I made one of them cry apparently, tho I think she is just a bit dramatic). You are free to assume which kind of essay it is, but keep in mind that I kept it simple and did not use “advanced” vocabulary or anything like that.

My recommendations were strong:
I have 2. I had to change one last minute sub cause one flaked out (it was awful, she knew me the best being that I had her for 3 years! But she moved to a new school district and some unfortunate things happened so I can understand not having the time or really the motivation to do it in those circumstances)

In conclusion (lol) my application is average or less. And I was accepted through OTE. I read the FAQ section on the BC website but I still have a lots of questions. If anyone knows more than what the FAQ gives PLEASE LET ME KNOW!! It’s a big decision. And also if you were admitted through the program lmk!

Also, congrats to all accepted. You did awesome and I’m proud to be apart of the same class as you (ya’ll are some talented individuals). Those who were wait listed - don’t give up hope! And those rejected - there are PLENTY of other schools out there, please don’t feel bad about yourselfl.

I was waitlisted with a 4.4 W GPA and a 1360 SAT, 9 AP’s total, editor in chief of the yearbook, president of mock trial, secretary of NHS, volunteer at my local hospital, officer of Social studies honor society. Is there anything I can do to better my chances besides sending in grades?

@yodiemagical congrats on your acceptance. I’m going to guess that your application painted a picture of you as an honest, hard working student that has not been handed anything in life. Your score isn’t great but that is likely a function of the school system that you describe. BC is a great place and I hope you can make it work out. Congrats to you!!! I don’t know anything about the OTE program, but it sounds like a nice option and that BC truly wants you to and thinks you can succeed there.

@lulu7575 Besides grades, you could send in any updates on extracurriculars (ex became senior captain for a spring sport) or achievements (won a writing competition or school achievement award). Is you don’t have any new achievements, just send in the grades. There’s not much you could do at this point.

Hi, is anyone considering going to BC for biology? My daughter got accepted into BC arts and sciences and is interested in going to medical school after undergrad. As great as BC seems I can’t seem to find anyone who has gone or is going for Biology, and I would really love some input so she makes the right choice for undergrad . Thanks!

@onlyBDR tell your daughter to request the official boston college group for accepted students 2021 (it’s called something like that) everybody is posting a little bit about themselves, and many seem to be biology and premed or nursing etc

That’s great - thanks!

So someone said financial aid woukd be out Monday… I don’t see anything! Did you guys get an email? Or check a link? If it’s on the website or portal somewhere could you direct me there?

Good morning @onlyBDR - see this section of the website - perhaps call or email today & ask to have a current Bio major or two connect with your child? http://www.bc.edu/schools/cas/premed.html

We don’t see any financial aid info either. Perhaps them meant that they would begin releasing financial aid numbers on Monday. I am thinking it bodes well if our isn’t released yet since the ones that have there numbers have been complaining so far.

Wait! when did the decisions come out cause i still haven’t gotten mine

@TexasDA last Friday, I think it was

i never got an email :frowning:

Im on the AGORA portal rn but i cant seem to find the decision

They sent an email that said your admission decision was a letter attached to the email. You should call them.

ok will do

I dont think I messed something up in my application. so Idk whats going on

@TexasDA search “boston” in your email. I know for some schools I applied to, I had to do that. Also, if its not there (which it should be) call and ask. They are so kind (I have called like 3 times for different reasons) so don’t be shy to ask!

@yodiemagical i called them an hour ago and they sent me my rejection letter lmao

oh I’m sorry, that pretty rough
