Boston College RD 2023

Hi there- question- did she apply to other schools that are harder to get into? I’ve seen this once before. I have a hunch. (I work with kids doing applications and essays)

@Elvisdadog (see above)

@f2000sa Could be, as anything is possible. But very risky as they’ve had very little movement off of Wl the past few years.

So hopefully this year is different and a lot more do come off Wl. It can change year to year.

But let’s not take anything away from the kids who received an acceptance. Many, if not all of those accepted are also extremely high stats and perhaps have great ecs or whatever as well.

I think it is more a giant numbers game. How do you appear compared to students from your area and interests. How many apply, where you live specifically, interests and essays plus your intended major. It has to all line up just right.

You could be waitlisted from a Jesuit high school in NJ and accepted with a very similar profile from state “x”.

And as much as it stings. There is not some admissions detective trying to find out where you also applied, determine which is your favorite and handicap whether or not you will get in to the other school - then Wl you or reject you before you can break up with them.

It just doesn’t work that way.

They can pick up potential signals that might lead to a Wl for a star candidate - indifference a or stilt towards another school or a mismatch for them in your essays, prompts and recommendations

S waitlisted

@“VA–>NC”

I was (and still am) rooting for you. So that is not the worst news. Connect with @BCBoundMaybe He can help

Accepted!!!

Was anyone here deferred from EA and accepted RD?

@BCBoundMaybe Hey, any tips after receiving a waitlist from BC Today? It’s currently one of my top choices and I think even my dream school. I would really appreciate all the help I could get.

@bbfan1927 I’m very sorry if you’re annoyed that students with “average credentials” like mine were accepted over students like your roommate’s brother. However, like many others said my stats were only a part of my application. Frankly, after seeing you’re elitist attitude on this thread, I can only hope it’s not an accurate representation of the values and ideas upheld by the whole student body at BC because I wouldn’t my gender, race, or economic background to “dilute from the exclusivity of the school”, as you said yourself. And if it makes you feel better, I did not buy my way in or get recruited as an athlete. Please do not discredit the hard work and time of those accepted with stats similar to mine.

Hi @Karenlovely - she was accepted to Northeastern with Dean and CAMD scholarship. She also applied to 4 Ivies, USC and Vanderbilt. Her grandfather went to BC too. Very disappointed as wait list could take until July!

@coxswain23.

Congrats!!! You’ve earned it 100 percent.

And my d goes to BC. She and her friends are really down to earth. Two roommates from west coast. They did a service trip to Appalachia instead of going to Miami Beach. Good kids and service culture.

All different kids and super nice.

And you should try BC crew. Head of the Charles is an awesome weekend.

I was deferred and then accepted EA. I’m a white female from the Bay Area.

@hol4ever I had a similar situation. Top stats and my dad went to Northeastern undergrad and didn’t get in. However, I just got into BC, which is harder to get in than Northeastern – very confusing.

@les2023. You’ll love Chestnut Hill. And Boston. Love to see Bay Area represented. Congrats. The long wait after EA is over!

@ elvisdadog I know ppl hate to hear this but the “Tufts effect” really does happen on occasion. Depending on the yield from previous year, they do sometimes lop the top kids off the top thinking they are headed elsewhere (please don’t attack me those of you who disagree but not only have I seen it happen- I’ve spoken to ppl who wish to remain anonymous who admit it). It’s a crazy game. My daughter was WL from a school with a 30% acceptance rate only to get into an Ivy two weeks later. One of my students got accepted BC EA with scores much lower than most I’m Seeing here- and one just got rejected with higher. It’s very interesting. And I’m def not saying that top kids did not get into BC- because I see many did, but they have to cut it off somewhere and I do suspect yeild is at play for some of the kids WL with higher scores.

@Elvisdadog couldn’t tag you above

My S was Accepted! He’s very excited.

ACT 35
GPA 3.98 UW / 4.54 W
Tons of EC’s, Band, Volunteer work, NHS, NMYO Select Flute Choir, JROTC, many leadership roles snd music awards.
Great LOR’s

We live in MA. He attends a public HS. #16 of 493. Chemistry Major

Congratulations to all!

also w everyone talking ab lower stats getting in and higher getting rejected, its not just ab stats!!! essays are so important and rec letters and ECs its a good thing that bc isn’t just paying attention to stats, bc thats not the only measure of how well they will thrive in the school.

Same boat, stay positive!

@florida19 just sent you pm. Good luck
