What would we call #577 or #583 If these are not high stats, what is?
And there are 36 acts here as well. And a ton of 4.0 and 3.9 uw.
And I’ve never heard of BC being a yield protector. It can’t be a fact unless it’s a repeatable pattern. Like if all “high stat” kids get Wl. Or a handful. It’s not that and EA has an average of 34 this year. 22 ACT is the National average.
I don’t fully understand why these apparently near flawless candidates don’t get in. But how do they decide between #577 and #583 and the others to invoke the Tufts rule.
It’s a combo thing and not sure what it is. But just saying its yield protection doesn’t explain the extremely high stats averages overall for the profile at BC.
I agree with @karenlovely. My daughter is a sophomore at BC. She was RD and it was her top choice (amongst her targets…she did have a few reaches). However she was waitlisted at schools that were likely (Syracuse and Elon(?!) we thought it was because those schools knew they weren’t her top choices. Anyway hopefully everyone finds their fit, if not BC.
Accepted to arts and sciences RD! I was also offered 4 years of housing, and I applied for FA but never received any of those emails people were talking about earlier. From MA, 1570 SAT, 4.0 UW GPA, and 4.6 W GPA. Stats aren’t everything but I hope this helps some future applicants!
Edit: my email came at 5:59 PM EST, and the subject line doesn’t give anything away. You have to open the email and then open the attached PDF before you see anything.
@coxswain23 , Elitist? That’s funny. The values and ideals of the student here are as fine as any college. In fact, more so than most. Perhaps owing to the Jesuit influence? Perhaps i’m too linear and maybe that will change as I get older but for now, credentials matter, and it is difficult if not impossible to console someone who has over achieved without the benefit of being rewarded. I’m sorry if that sentiment rubs you and others the wrong way but i’m not in the business of managing peoples sensitivity. Congratulations and good luck.
All these top schools have metrics to try and predict yield. It’s not just about stats, it’s geography, high school, chats with the guidance counselor etc.
Super upset about waitlist. I have had so much stress and anxiety since being deferred in December and now they still leave me hanging?? I am so over the entire college admissions process at this point. Good luck to my kids. BC acceptance rate will be 0.001% by the time they apply to colleges.
Hi all! I have been admitted as part of the class of 2023. I submitted my fafsa and CSS profile but not the additional forms like the w-2. I am going to mail it first thing in the morning. I was wondering how much will it change my financial award. HELP! Thank you
@karenlovely I hear what you are saying. But how does that explain the most recent acceptances #577 and 583. And the profiles from earlier posters.
And one student I may know is a single example, not a big enough sample to make a judgments.
I don’t know what the answer is and scratch my head too. I’ve been through it personally.
And perhaps Elon does do this arbitrary selection. I don’t know them very well But their mission and profile is completely different.
That sentiment would rub Pope Francis the wrong way.
S accepted. 34 ACT 4.3 GPA 780 subject tests. 5 and 4 on APs. Political internship, 4 yr varsity soccer, club soccer, lots of volunteer, model UN, NHS, jobs. top 10%. NJ. public HS.
@privatebanker
Yeah- I’m definitely NOT saying it’s the ONLY reason for the inconsistencies in admissions but it’s definitely something I’ve seen before and like I said was admitted to me once. I also heard from an essay reader at an Ivy several years ago that the kids are so similar in the last group that they pretty much toss things up in the air and whatever lands in the table get in. It’s a flawed system with lots of moving parts and yeild prediction happens to be one small facet.
@bondk1859
Same, more or less.
Substitute varsity baseball for softball, and my rocket went only 20 ft (well done, you!)
Glad I didn’t waste any time watching Desperate Housewives since my sister and I are headed to Northeastern, too.
@privatebanker thank you so much! You have been so helpful. I haven’t seen the name you have mentioned, but will give it a go! I really appreciate it!
@karenlovely good points. Hope everyone lands exactly were is best for them in the long run. My d had a waitlist at GTown and she was over 75 percentile in all basic cats.
I was very glad as it would have been a very bad fit for her. Didn’t say it out loud to her.
It seems to me that admissions people do a pretty good job in a short amount of time. It’s thankless work if you ask me.
@jjplus3 if as you say holy cross or Villanova more suited to your daughter, why bother applying to BC?
@“VA–>NC” He has been in the past half hour. DM him. He knows the process cold.
@bbfan1927 I see a good mix of acceptances here. You don’t want only top scorers coming in. You want well rounded normal students too. Those with lower scores/grades have often worked just as hard if not harder than those with perfect scores. I understand your frustration and I would give your friend the advice that hard work always pays off long term. Whether you get into a dream school or not. Many of those accepted SCEA at Harvard had lower stats than S. But we know that’s just how it goes. The stats only show a small piece of the applicant. If he had been waitlisted or rejected to BC he for sure would have been despondent but again we know that’s just the breaks sometimes. Will be that way in everything for the rest of life. Have to accept it, keep working hard and move on.
I was accepted to nursing from MA!!! I have 4.4 WGPA, 33 ACT. I was absolutely positive that I would be WL/rejected from seeing all the impressive stats online. I am so sorry for anyone who got news they didn’t want tonight. I just broke a string of waitlists and rejections from “easier” schools and I am so thankful that BC saw something in my application. To those wondering how people with “lower” stats are getting in, I worked incredibly hard on essays, activities list, etc, but my GPA is lower because I have a learning disability that went undiagnosed until senior year and had extenuating circumstances causing a drop. I discussed it in my app and it didn’t seem to help for most schools but I am so glad BC could look past the numbers. You never know what else is in an application besides the stats.
