Boston College RD 2023

@heavyrunner

You can go on the BC site and run the NPC calculator.

I just did it for you with the limited info.

Inputs. Made up most for this example.

140k parental income as you stated. 30k from mom the rest from dad. Just a guess. 30k in federal taxes paid. No home equity. No child support. No investments. No cash on hand. No student income. No siblings. No educational tax credits. No trust accounts. Us citizen. Ohio resident. And you don’t work.

Under this set of facts it estimated

35k in aid. 38k EFC. 35.5k parents 2500 you. Also 6k in work study and loan.

Total net cost 29.5 parents 6k loans and work study. 2500 summer job

I would get all of the specific inputs and run it for yourself. But that hopefully gives you an idea.

Hi Pinkpeonies123

Curious which Ivy did you get a Likely letter from?

@BcUcIDK

Good on you and good on BC for accepting you. You sound like an, earnest, super enthusiastic person who has overcome some adversity. A real mensch. Truly discerning schools will pick that up rather than relying specific “hooks” that are beyond your control.

Just wondering, did anyone who got the FA email on 3/11 get rejected today?

Thanks man!!! I’m definitely excited for the future, but still have to wait for that financial aid package. I have a full ride from Occidental College and UCR but I really want to go to Boston!!!

Accepted from Portland, Oregon! Anyone else here from the Pacific Northwest?

@karenlovely I am not entirely sure that BC needs yield protection considering that the only schools that are considered above it are generally the Ivy’s and a smattering of schools like Georgetown and Berkeley. Also, from the stats I am seeing on this page it doesn’t look like BC accepted any of the “-A” students this year.

@les2023 what is an “-A” student?

@BcUcIDK My daughter, whose greatest dream was to go to BC, was denied admission yesterday. To say she was devastated is an understatement. And yet, I smiled from ear to ear when I read your acceptance post. I don’t know who you are or your circumstances but I am glad BC recognized the hurdles you have jumped over to get to where you are. Many, many congratulations! You are going places. My daughter has choices— she will be just fine:)

@waitinginnh22 That was beautiful!

We got the email from financial aid and were waitlisted. I do believe the email from financial aid at the last minute does mean something , admission or waitlist.

Congrats to those that have been accepted! Fingers crossed for the WL’ers. And to anyone that did not get the news they hoped for, there isn’t a rhyme or reason as to why the cards land where they fall, I do hope that you keep your chin up and move on, there is someplace else waiting for YOU!

@privatebanker I am actually a little shocked that I was accepted. Are you going to matriculate at Boston College? Send me a DM; let’s meet up in the Riv this weekend. We beat Jasiel Correia. Haha! PC guy!

Congrats to all accepted! And on the bright side for WL students my daughter and her classmate (both accepted at CSOM EA) will not be accepting their admission so spots do open up…

@waitinginnh22 Best of luck. Hope your D gets a great spot somewhere else that she loves

@BcUcIDK Congratulations! You sound like an amazing person. It’s easy to see what BC sees in you.

Welcome to College Confidential and please stick around to keep us all posted on your story!

Daughter was waitlisted. ACT 31, GPA 4.1, lots of extracurriculars and a competitive dancer who created a dance program for autistic children. Considering the crazy high number of applicants and about 20 students from my daughter’s class of 115 applied, we’re okay with the outcome.

My son was waitlisted after being deferred EA. Congratulations to all that got accepted. I would appreciate if someone could provide a little insight into the admission process. My son stats are:
SAT: 1460
SAT II: bio 750, Global 800, Chem: 750
Full IB diploma
large public high school that does not rank
Average 99.6 weighted
EC: 12 seasons high school sports (9 as varsity)
Altar server/MC/trainer at our parish
Boys Scholar Athlete Leadership club
Eagle Scout, Senior Patrol Leader
Intern at a Law firm
Swim instructor.
I understand his EC are limited primarily because his sports commitment was so time consuming. I felt his essays were good. I just can’t wrap my head around how the schools make decisions,

My financial aid was posted on the Agora Portal although it says it won’t be available until Monday… They want me to pay $15,000 more than my EFC…

@runningryan My daughter’s best friend has numbers similar to your son and was deferred EA and waitlisted last night too. You’ll make yourself crazy trying to figure it out, as there often seems to be no rhyme or reason. A girl in my daughter’s class got into Notre Dame but waitlisted at both BC and Villanova. Her numbers were on the low end for ND and lower than several other girls from their class who got denied (including my daughter who was also a 4th generation legacy), so it’s tough to understand. Your son sounds like a great kid who’s very accomplished and I hope everything will work out for him!

Maybe on Monday there will be more money? Maybe it is not complete?
