Boston College RD 2023

My daughter was in a forced triple and it seemed that most forced triples on upper were given to waitlisted students. The space was very small for three girls and after three months, one of the girls decided to move to Newton. My daughter had an amazing four years at BC and made many life long friends. Congrats on your acceptance.

Just there today. Beautiful weather and all kinds of people walking around and jogging at the reservoir.

As we walked back towards D’s dorm in the quad in front of Gaston Hall there were a bunch of students playing kickball with a bunch of middle school and elementary school age kids. I asked d who they were. She said it’s Boston bigs. I’m like what it is that. She said it’s the BC big brothers and big sisters chapter for local kids. Meet every other Saturday.

That’s BC culture in a nutshell.

Also check out the new student plex opening for fall. It’s a really large and impressive building just for student fitness classes, pools and gyms. It blew me away. And they are tearing down the old student activities building that looked very 70s to me. And will give nice site lines to the stadium. Maybe that’s where the new integrated sciences building is going. So much happening. It will be an exciting period to be a student there in the coming years.

@privatebanker no way, I was just there today too! As I walked by the kids, one of them kicked the ball over the fence and a BC student that was down there retrieved it for him. Really speaks well about the character of these students.

The campus reminded me a lot of Princeton’s. Beautiful gothic architecture, plenty of green spaces, etc. Warning: it’s a bit hilly! Expect lots of stairs. What surprised me most was the air about the place. Maybe it was because of the nice weather and the fact that it was a Saturday, but everyone there seemed relaxed – lots of people lounging around on the grass, both on their laptops doing homework and just having picnics together. And no fewer than 3 students stopped to talk to my mom and I as we were walking around. This was not even during a campus tour or information session – we were just visiting.

Xyz

The stairs are a thing. Actually the million dollar stairs are heated so snow isn’t an issue.

But everyone knows the stair “hacks” from lower to main campus are elevator short cuts. Going home it’s all downhill!

Upper requires stairs. Good daily excercise is how I look at it. Offsets all the hours in library.

@privatebanker The new Engineering/science building will be built where Cushing Hall is today. Cushing looks pretty meh today but the new building will match the architecture of the main buildings with the green tile

@T20hopeful2023

Wow great spot for it. And a big upgrade. Also engineering will probably be there too.

That’s good to know. It will match the new plex too. What a beautiful place.

@T20hopeful2023 Lol. Nerd out. That’s me.

And does anyone really want to get mad at BC if a Schiller kid gets into BC one day? $300mm. Not me.

It’s really going to be a great place for cutting edge science and research.

Quite a coincidence. My dad popped came up for the weekend. On Saturday night, we had dinner down town, afterwords, we did a full campus “walk -talk” from 11pm-12:30am. Started at Pabst and worked our way down to the new football facility and back up but with a detour- when we cut through the mods, and the mods, well, you know…the mods are the mods… always something to catch one’s ear or eye’s…anyway- The campus was ours. Beautiful @ night.

@bbfan1927 That’s awesome. Did you
mean Bapst or Pabst?

When I was in college it definitely would have started with a Pabst- Blue Ribbon. If it’s not a thing anymore. Think cheap beer! LOL.

Thst walk sounds great. My d got rid of me about 4. She wanted to have fun. Which precludes her parents involvement?

Hi! My DD was accepted RD and we are trying to figure out when we can head up to Chestnut Hill for a tour. She is deciding between 2 schools and we have not visited BC yet. She can’t make it to the admitted eagle weekend because it’s senior prom. If we had to choose between an Eagle for a day or the admitted Eagle campus tour, which one should we do? They day we can come, they have both offered but at the same time :neutral: any input would help! Thanks! We are excited!

Awesome. I don’t know the answer. @bbfan1927 or @BCBoundMaybe would know better. Have fun. It’s such a great place. Really different and I understand why so many of my friends who attended remain highly committed to their school.

@khobes - if you haven’t yet visited BC, you are in for a treat! As an alum, I might be biased, but I think it is one of the most beautiful campuses in the country! My son was admitted to BC last year. We toured, attended admitted student day and he did the Eagle for a Day visit. Overwhelmingly, he felt the Eagle for a Day visit was the most productive use of time. He sat in on a class, got to visit a dorm room, and had lunch with a group of BC kids. The day provided a nice overview of what a typical day is like for a student at Boston College. I have a 2020 and if she is lucky enough to be admitted to BC, she will definitely attend Eagle for a Day. Good luck with your daughter’s decision, it is an exciting time, enjoy!

Thanks so much!!! We walked through campus on a Sunday about 2 years ago but didn’t do a tour! I really appreciate your input and your love to BC!!

@khobes Since you’ll be here, you should come over to Newton Campus to see the freshman dorms, the law school, and the athletic fields. That way you’ll see the entire campus. When my parents came into town they took me out to eat at Comedor, a restaurant in Newton Centre - it was really good. And maybe take a walk around the reservoir. That way you’ll get a better feel for the entire area. And if you get placed on Newton campus, you’ll know it’s not that bad - except for waiting for the bus in January and February. And if you have time, you can take the green line along Comm Ave

One other recommendation for lunch. Cafe Landwer in Cleveland Circle. A half mile from lower. It’s a coffee shop with its own roasted Israeli coffee beans and a great menu with Israeli and middle eastern flare. They have board games to play etc. it’s really good and chill. Try a cappuccino , the hummus plate with warm and fluffy pita circles. And baked Israeli artichokes. It’s really awesome.

I would definitely go for the Eagle For A Day option over the Admitted Students Tour. You will get a much more granular sense of what life is like at BC.

no one mentioned White Mountain Creamery yet? That’s my go-to every time on campus. The seasonal flavors are awesome.

And if you are out that way, also a fan of Bill’s Pizza in Newtown. It’s more of a local community place, however, and not full of students.
