Boston College Rugby

I was an athletic high school varstiy football player that won’t be able to play at the ACC level, and so I am interested in playing club rugby at BC. I know the basic ideas of the sport, and it seems fun, but it is more the idea that I like. The ability to be on a very competitive team with a commitment that “filters out” the weak and unathletic, I like the idea of being welcomed into a group with upperclassmen that will look out for you, challenge you, and help you get accustomed to the college life. I basically want to recreate my high school football experience: tough morning workouts both in the weight room and on the field, comraderie, brotherhood, and being able to have “connections” in the social scene as a freshman.

Can anyone give me any knowledge that they know about club rugby at BC, the guys, the culture of rugby, and if it will make my social life transition easier (ie. being able to get invited to parties and being able to meet upperclassmen.)

I have a lot of friends who play rugby and from what I’ve heard it’s almost like what you want, but not completely. The guys don’t work out together all the time, just practice and have games. They do throw their own parties and it’s not very competetive to get on the team, but rather it’s about which team you’re on. There’s Div I (which is the second best division), Div II and a third team. So basically you can play and work with teammates who are extremely athletic to moderately athletic. I think it’ll make transitioning better. Good luck
