<p>I'm your typical Irish Catholic white girl from an upperclass public school (Diverse, right? Put me down for minority!) that is out of state for both of these schools. Just to give you the scoop on my high school, it is one of the top 10 public high schools in the country and has a reputation among colleges for being extremely rigorous and difficult. I'm hoping this will help me with respect to my GPA but I really have no idea, so let me know what you think! I'm a Junior.</p>
<p>GPA (4.0 scale): 3.52 (my hs gives 0.5 added to your honors/AP grades)<br>
SAT (I've taken it once and am going to again in May): Writing: 750 Math: 660 Critical Reading: 680 Superscore: 2090
SAT 2: Taking Biology and Literature 1 and 2 in June so I'm not sure yet
ACT: Taking in March</p>

<p>I know my GPA is lower than is usually accepted but I'm hoping admissions will understand how impossible my high school is!! </p>
<p>Extracurriculars:</p>
<p>EMS - this one is hard to explain and understand. My town is the only one in the country that has an ambulance corps completely run by high school students. This is nothing like your typical volunteer firefighter-esque experience--this is literally an EMS organization staffed, run, and composed of students from my high school. This includes 300+ hours a month of being on duty, which means being an EMT and working on the ambulance like EMTs in the rest of the world work. We literally bring an ambulance to school with us and leave school to respond to medical emergencies. I often have to wake up in the middle of the night to go to car accidents/what have you on the highway and then an hour later take a math test like a regular high school kid. I don't know how I can possibly explain how complicated this is and how much of a commitment this is without sitting the head of admissions down and gluing my work schedule to his forehead but I'm sure as hell going to try!
I have been an officer in this organization for two years and right now I am in the running to be elected into one of the six "elected officer" positions that some seniors can hold. These six kids pretty much run the whole shabang and I have a pretty good shot at being elected so I hope this helps me too.</p>
<p>Let's just say so far I've logged at least 10,800 hours there? I don't have time for many other clubs/activities. </p>

<p>My Sophomore year I was in our China Exchange Program where I hosted a Chinese student for two weeks and then went to China for three weeks to live and study with a different Chinese student (to all of you who are wondering, I know exactly one word in Chinese and that is Ni Hao for Hello). I will probably end up writing my essay on this because it directly relates to why I am so fascinated by other cultures. I am also considering a double major in Spanish for this reason.</p>
<p>I want to do Nursing because I have been aware my passion for medicine since I was 10 years old and it has only been confirmed by my three years of working on an ambulance. I know these schools are both reaches because I don't exactly have the diversity factor (HA) and they probably won't look much farther than my 3.52 (yikes) so please feel free to be honest and tell me what you really think!!</p>
