With a package like that I’d scoop up URoc - unless you are sure you’d like one of the other schools better. Do you have a preference if all three were in a hat and you had to draw one?

Write down how much each school will cost you by taking the Cost of attendance and subtracting out the grants. Don’t include WS or loans. You might see the answer right there. Loans are just pushing the cost into the future with some additional costs (interest) charged. You can work at any of the schools, and with WS you have to work towards your aid, not towards your own EFC.

I would prefer Boston College but the lack of diversity at the school is a little off putting.

Would it be rude to tell Boston College that I need my financial aid decision as soon as possible?

No, quite the contrary. Explain the situation and state that you need to have their decision by the end of the week.

I called Boston College and explained the situation. I just received my financial aid award.
The cost to attend BC is $64,134
Loans - $5,000
Grants, work study and other - 58,130
Minus Work Study - 55,730

Huh? Not much difference, as far as I can tell.

Rochester = 44% non-white
'Cuse = 44%
BC = 42%

Depending on where in California, Boston-Logan can be non-stop and somewhat easier travel. The other two will require a change in planes/airports.

So it looks like you’re saying you’d have to borrow the following:
Cuse - 0-2k per year (minimal).
Rochester - 5k per year
BC - 6k per year.

I think you can rule out Rochester. BC is much better than Rochester but only slightly more expensive. Between BC and Cuse, obviously BC is the better school but it is going to cost you in loans. The question becomes whether you would rather borrow the extra 4-6k per year to attend the better school. Ultimately, only you can make this decision.

informative…Syracuse would cost me about 12,592 a year.

bluebayou…Thank you for that information. Now I have a better comparison of the three schools.

I would like to thank everyone who commented on this thread. I gained a lot of insight! I think I have made my decision!!! ; *- O:-)

So…? What did you decide and how did you come to that conclusion?

I am officially a Boston College girl. After doing lots of research, looking at my financial aid package, the comments of you all and thinking about my future, I decided Boston College would be a great fit for me. Boston College’s academics, prestige, the financial aid package ( I liked it), having family in the area and a cousin who attends BC, I think BC would be a great fit for me. I was initially having a hard time after reading lots of negative comments but I realized, some people are always negative, and their experience might not be the same as mine. I looked up the diversity in comparison with the other schools and I realized that the difference in the statistics of diversity is not drastic. I am happy with my choice, there was a reason why I put it on my college list.

congrats, OP. good luck.
