Hey everyone! I got into Boston College, University of Rochester and Syracuse University. I am very happy to have been accepted to these three colleges but, I have to pick only one of these colleges. I would appreciate any feedback on which of these colleges would be suitable for me while I attend college and how any of these colleges might affect my career in the future. By suitable for me, I just want a description of campus life, campus housing, financial aid after the first year, friendliness of other students, diversity, faculty and all the other good stuff. Please help me!! Thanks for all the help. :D :)>-

Anyone have any personal favorites? Former or current students opinions?

what are the costs to you? what do you want to major in?

Mostly covered at Syracuse, $50,000. I have not gotten my financial aid package from the other two schools yet.
Major: Biology - Pre Med

Clarification, please: Syracuse will cost you 14K?

Visit them and see which one fits you best… different strokes for different folks.

My guy (pre-med) loves URoc - you may, or may not.

And yes, you will want to see what the cost differences are before making a decision unless your family is easily full-pay.

Once you’ve received your FA offers, come back to post:
(tuition+ R&B) - (grants+scholarships) = ?
What’s your parents’ budget?

Boston College, well, is in Boston :), so if you life big cities AND a city that’s great for students, Boston is it. Syracuse and Rochester both are in big cities too, but they’re less attractive big cities.
Boston College is Catholic, which may matter to you, whereas the other universities are not affiliated to any religion. URochester has an open curriculum and is very strong for science, so that’d be my favorite, but ymmv.

I will make sure to come back and post once I have all my financial aid awards. Sadly, I cannot visit any of these colleges because I live in California and my family cannot afford it. Thank you to everyone for all your help so far. *-

anyone share score stats please… thankk you, very much apreciate it.

Ignoring money (hope good fin aid comes through), Syracuse would be my personal 3rd of the three choices. Rochester tends to draw a geekier crowd, BC more athletic/mainstream. More of a science feel to Rochester than BC. Weather worse (a bit) in Rochester, not a bad city, BC is not in Boston proper but close enough, fair access to great college town. Obvious issue of Catholic base to BC which also means a somewhat more conservative student body than Rochester. Don’t know what rocks your boat.

Financial aid is very important to me. I cannot go to any of these colleges without it. I will be receiving my financial aid packets soon and will post the results. Apparently, I had some information missing from BC. I posted early because I am new to this website and wanted to jump start my decision process. Thank you all

Hi everyone! I received my URoc financial aid award letter. I received about 57,000 out of a little over 63,000. I am still waiting for my BC award letter. I am hoping they cover everything and if not, I will make my decision and ask the school I wish to go to for help to cover full tuition.

How much of that URoc offer was loans, OP?

Look at your award line per line, not the total.
Typically, you’d have $5,500 in loans, $2,500 in work study (these aren’t scholarships - you have to pay the loan back and you have to work to earn the money). Then is the rest indicated as “grant” or “scholarships”, or as “PLUS”, “loans”, etc…?

URoc cost $63,772
Loans - $ 6000 per year
Grants, work study and other non repayable funds - $57,772

I recently won another scholarship and I need my Boston College financial aid decision to fully make my decision. Additionally, I must mail the scholarship agency the name of the college I am attending by April 23rd. Would it be rude to call Boston College and request that my decision process be hastened? Can someone please help me with how to word my request? Thanks. :-h

That is amazingly sweet, OP! Congratulations. If any of these schools is willing to spend this much to get you to come there, they might be willing to spring for plane tix for one. Call up your admissions officer and see if the college has the resources to fly you east. Can’t hurt to ask.

I never thought of that idea. Will I be stuck with the bill of the plane ticket if I choose not to go to the school?

Thank you by the way jkeil911!

No, you email to visit and decide which one you like best. If they offer to fly you in, then it’s on them. :)
