@TomSrOfBoston I got that number off her acceptance letter.
“Your studies will begin with a semester on BU’s residential campus in January 2020 with a team of approximately 80 classmates, followed by a six-week summer term at BU’s campus in the heart of London.”
@minka14 Ah, so the letter did not tell the whole story. There are 600 CGS January entrants in total.
@NJMAN2500 I got in with 1300
Did anyone get a letter from President of BU, Robert Brown?
my parents did
@hoosierdaddy123 @beccaisa a physical letter? I have something coming in my mail today and I don’t what to expect but I recently got into BU.
Yes, a very nice email letter addressed to the parents.
@morrismom1 you wrote email but I think you meant physical. Also, the delivery guy called my personal number and not my parents’ and told me there was mail for me. Could this be the same letter you’re talking about?
No, it was an email not a physical letter received yesterday at 5:14 pm. est.
DS was waitlisted. Rejection letter said he could put his name on a “short” WL. Looking at previous years, thousands of people are put on BU’s WL (and very few get in). DS decided not to go on WL since he has already gotten into a couple of schools higher on his list. Still curious as to why BU call the WL “short.”
I have not heard anything about the dorm situation. Sounds like they will be keeping them all together, but no details yet.
S received acceptance package in the mail yesterday, a beautiful welcome letter and brochure.
Accepted!
CAS
4.17 W/3.7 UW
1490 SAT
Decent ECs and essay, good BU essay
Does anyone know if BU sends more information about financial aid later on? I know you can see your aid on your portal, but I was wondering if they ever sent a more detailed letter of how much the tuition+room would be?
I got accepted into the college of engineering which I’m super excited about. But the tuition is too steep for me to pay without any form of aid. would I be able to receive any if I call the office of admissions. BU is one of my top choices so i’d love to go there
@Brian Ndiaye You can appeal but it is doubtful If you are international BU gives no need based aid.
Son rejected from CAS, SAT=1540, GPA=4.2 subject tests=780(biology/math/chemistry) 4 AP, minimal EC.
wow looks like BU had an 18.1% acceptance rate this year
If you take into account the higher acceptance rate from ED (in previous years around 29%), the acceptance rate from RD was much lower than 18%.
Actually BU has done something really different with its admissions this year over last year. In 2018, they offered 15,273 admissions on 60,825 applications and enrolled 3,500 freshmen. In 2019, they have only offered 11,260 places on 62,210 applications and aim to enroll 3,100 freshmen.
This suggests that the conditional probability of a reciprocal fit between offer and acceptance has climbed from 22.9% to 27.5% In statistical terms this is a huge increase.
If we strip out the effect of Early Decision, the difference is even more stark. In 2018, BU Admitted 1,229 students on ED (up from 1,100 the prior year) . So in RD they made 14,044 offers and received 2,269 acceptances for a reciprocal fit of 16.2% . If they made the same number of ED offers this year (and I dont think they did) then they are aiming for a reciprocal fit of 18.6% if they want to bring enrollment down to 3,100 and a reciprocal fit of 22.6% if they want to keep enrollment at 3,500. A move from a probability of a 16.2 % for a reciprocal fit to 22.6% is staggering.
Either BU Admissions department have confidence in much more precise yield management algorithms so they are making offers to applicants that have a greater probability of accepting (turning away qualified candidates who they believe will not accept) …or they placed a greater emphasis on ED this year.
