Boston University Regular Decision 2025: Discussion & Decisions

I just read it went blow 14%

Yield protection will land you on the waitlist. It’s unfair but it is the game for them

Usually when you write your supplemental essay you make it clear that you’re looking for the non Ivy environment without saying it. You let the school you’re applying to
Know that you’re specifically looking at them because they are not what is up there at the top of the cutthroat pile.
If you send a LOCI you could do it in that

where?

Luckily I have seen both. I do prefer a campus like Syracuse but I still like BU. I might just take the transfer option because it’s there. I can always withdraw or decline if I like Syracuse and do not want to transfer.

Are you asking where in the letter?

?? where did you find this

Thank you. Unfortunately I did not get any merit from Syracuse, but I have from other schools of similar status, so I could get some. BU was a reach for me but my demonstrated interest (applied EDII) and essays probably helped me avoid a rejection here. I can afford both so it might be good for me to take the transfer option and then go to Newhouse and see where I go from there.

I’m sorry I don’t understory question and I want to make sure it’s for me?
Where did I find this information?
This is what I do for a living - but I also happen to be the parent of an applicant.

I believe that the deadline to accept the Guaranteed Transfer option is May 1st but not certain. If you accept that offer you are under NO OBLIGATION to actually transfer. You can continue at whatever college you choose. You will likely be bombarded by BU with emails and brochures next winter urging you to transfer though.

You can submit a LOCI to Northeastern but acceptance off the waitlist is subject to how many accepted students choose to enroll.

Where did you read that the BU acceptance rate is below 14%? That is what they are asking.

My twins are both waitlisted.

Does BU “want” the students they waitlist more, or the students they give the guaranteed transfer to?

Merit aid has been around long before the USNews rankings. I received it in college many eons ago. There are many families who do not qualify for need based aid but are unable to fork over $80,000/year for four years.

But it seems merit aid is focused on the freshman pool, not the transfer pool. If it were only to get the right mix of students on campus, I think the distribution would be somewhat similar across the two groups.

Where is merit award stated? My D is a college board scholar and was expecting an award.

harvard is impossible for a student with my stats. I have nothing to offer them. I don’t know why they’ll accept me. I’ve seen the type of people that apply there and I’m nowhere near their league.

Agreed. It is good for the college.

UCI is getting crazy competitive and actually ranked higher than BU. For Bio-Med you know it’s very very competitive for many reasons. Incoming freshman have solid educational metrics, campus is in a very diverse city, typically rated one of America’s safest cities, and has a ton of bio-med companies within 10-15 minutes of campus with some on the campus research park. Massimo, JNJ, Medtronic, BioRad, etc. Main reason is there’s a lot of PE and VC money in the area. Best of luck!

Is this list for this year? As in for admission for fall 2021? I see the university of miami on it but i as rejected from it i dont think i can apply there again? Plus i also think these tuition discounts and scholarships are only for domestic students. Please correct me if im wrong. Am i a 2020 applicant or a 2021 applicant…ugh! this is so confusing

That article is a year old. They are talking about fall 2020 admission. Only a handful of universities offer need based aid to internationals.
