Boston University Regular Decision 2025: Discussion & Decisions

Forgot to add 4 year 2 sport varsity athlete, leadership positions, lots of ECs and volunteer hours, great letters of recommendation. Realizing this is hitting me harder than her.

Accepted
SAT 1570
Did not get any merit scholarship. If we call/email BU and mention that we got merit scholarships from other Universities will they consider giving some merit scholarship amount ?

anyone know the Acceptance rate/stats for this year?

I don’t know about BU, but I have heard of people doing that, with success.

Agree with everything you said. My D21 applied to the same schools that you mentioned for your D with fairly opposite results but in the same crazy, unpredictable way: rejected from UNC (OOS), admitted to Northeastern, rejected at BU for Fall 2021 with guaranteed transfer for Fall 2022 and deferred and still waiting to hear from Tulane, but not holding out much hope. Still has some other schools in the mix too. This year is a roller coaster. So different than it was for D17.

Hello everyone,
Congrats to all those who have been accepted and to the guaranteed transfers!!! To those waitlisted, don’t lose hope! I am a current sophomore at BU, studying biology and I am just here to answer any questions you might have about BU, so feel free to ask! Hope to see some of you in the fall!

Possible but not likely. If they are not “peer schools” then it won’t work.

My S was just admitted to this program. Do you know how well the cohort bonds socially or how well they merge back in to main campus? He’s been interested in study or research abroad so this is an exciting opportunity!

My question is do you think it is better to send the LOCI to the regional/state admissions representative or the director of admissions?

CGS students spend spring semester in Boston and then go to London or do the New England option during the summer. They have already been familiar with Boston and main campus.

We got 17K at University of Rochester so wondering if mentioning that would help.

Does anyone know how “short” (their word) the waitlist at BU actually is?

Hi! I was fortunate enough to be accepted so I never had to write a LOCI, so take my advice with a grain of salt. While it wouldn’t hurt to email both, you’re not likely to make a huge impact if you email just the director of admissions, I’m sure they receive a crap ton of emails daily. You would probably have better luck emailing your regional/state admissions since they’re more likely to see it and make note of it. You could always email them and cc the director of admissions. Best of luck!

Got so hyped this morning, BU was a pretty big reach for me ngl I was shocked I got in!

GPA: 3.6 / Weighted GPA: 4.3
Didn’t Submit SAT or ACT
ECs: Varsity Sport, JV Sport; Some local Volunteer Work
4 Total AP/H classes

My only theory is that they liked that I improved each year of highschool, but I’m certainly not complaining.

UR is definitely a peer school. You may want to scan and attach the Rochester letter to the appeal.

Thank you! This is correct. I was thrown off by the “gap” Fall semester. Yes, I’m hopeful for some sense of normalcy by the time he’s ready to go abroad.

Guaranteed transfer for fall of 2022.
-electrical engineering.
SAT: 1400. Submitted 3 AP scores (World History 4, Stats 5, Macro 5)
-strong essays.
-good extracurriculars, but not necesarrily focused on one thing.

I was initially deferred when I applied ED2. I then sent a LOCI.

My daughter got the same “short” waitlist in her email, with the added “unranked waitlist” – We’re also wondering how short it short.

While I can’t offer you an exact number, I do have the stats from last year’s cycle. 5,235 freshmen students were offered a place on the WL, 2,987 accepted a place on it, and only 339 were finally accepted. So about 11% of students on the waitlist were accepted.
