Boston University Regular Decision 2025: Discussion & Decisions

I am questioning the value of 6 weeks abroad vs. a full semester in Boston - especially with room and board, etc. I think it’s a valid concern.

My daughter admitted to College of Engineering + Kilachand Honors.
We are super excited. She got $15k in FA.

Thoughts on Kilachand Honors College? I see mixed reviews.

Are you sure that CGS students can take business classes? I thought most of the Questrom classes are available only for business major students like in most universities. If that is the case, even if you get admitted from CGS to Questrom after a few semesters, you will definitely be behind students that started at Questrom in terms of preparing for internships & full-time jobs and graduating in 4 years.
P&Q[Poets&Quants for Undergrads - Boston University Questrom School of Business] describes how Questrom students have a strong start from day one.

Can anyone comment on counseling services at BU? My S was in early college in NY this year (on campus) and had issues with anxiety (it has been a tough year to start college!). I would hope he could get help at BU if he were to need it.

I was also accepted into Kilachand, and just from what i’ve heard from current students (emailing or on youtube), it seems to be a much small cohort of students with academic advantages, specialized housing, and co-curricular projects. Essentially you do more work to get more honor.

I know that some specific advantages are early course registration and bigger dorms with AC.

You said “mixed reviews,” so do you mind sharing some of the negatives you’ve heard?

There is a good review on the BU student newspaper

https://dailyfreepress.com/2017/04/19/op-ed-kilachand-honors-college-is-between-a-rock-and-a-hard-place/

Basically there are several perks to being an Honors student;

  • larger, air-conditioned dorm rooms

  • 1st preference in scheduling classes

  • Opportunity to work on diverse topics

The cons: The course load does not seem to be commensurate with the benefits it may yield.
there doesn’t seem to be a distinctive advantage career opportunity-wise, that would distinguish you.
Again it all depends on one’s interest!!

When Kilachand first started students were to be required to live in Kilachand Hall all four years. That requirement was eliminated when many students threatened to drop out of the program.

Kilachand seems a good choice for many Arts and Sciences students but not so for students in the more career oriented colleges e.g. Engineering, Questrom.

I have a friend who is in Kilachand. It has its pros and cons like many have said. Some of the cons have been that she has to do other classes outside of her major to retain her status as an honor student and there’s sometimes a conflict with that and her major classes as a neurobio student. It’s not impossible to handle but if you’re in a pretty demanding major like engineering, it can be tough to manage at times. But you do get to live in a pretty nice dorm- compared to the typical freshman dorms like Warren or West and you get earlier times to pick classes which can be a lifesaver when you want a really good professor or only a certain section works for your schedule.

so does BU accept decision appeals?

No.

There’s no point in doing it.

One of my students was very successful with this and was granted admission to BC. Sometimes it works- sometimes it doesn’t.

Oh sorry. Thanks for clarifying, my phone doesn’t show the thread in order.

There is a blog run by some Ivy kids where they project admissions drops based on previous year stats.
Last year BU accepted 18% of applicants but had a 25% increase in applicants this year. So if they accepted the same amount as last year the acceptance rate would be projected to drop to 14-15% this year. I took a screen shot but I can’t add it here.

great to know, thanks!

The official announced that there are 75,733 applications. An incoming first-year class of 3,200 students.

Congrats guys! We made it! What a tough year

4.225% acceptance rate

Um no lol, colleges accept more than they enroll because not everyone admitted enrolls… lmao

Did anyone who was admitted never see anything about the honors college on the status update? I got my decision about the merit scholarship, but nothing about honors college. Do I assume it was a rejection?
