Boston University RISE Program 2015 Admissions

@itsmyusername, my son got into RISE and also got that email about the other programs and webinar. I don’t think the different offices at BU are connected

@sloppychair Same here, April 15

ACK - I didn’t get that email either!! ;3; waiting list, here I come…?

Did anyone else today get an email telling them what mentor they were just assigned? I’m wondering if they sent them all at the same time, or if they’re sending the acceptance letters individually.

It’s individual

rejected today

I got rejected a few weeks ago. i emailed the admission asking why, and they said, “we had to choose criteria of perfect unweighted GPAs and standardized test scores in order to end up with a reasonably sized pool of applicants.” i assume that if you applied late like me, the criteria for the leftover spots were raised significantly… so don’t feel bad if you get rejected

I was accepted ED about 12 days ago but they say they still haven’t found a mentor. Has anyone else had this happen? How long did it take to find a mentor?

My son was accepted 2 weeks ago and got the mentor (Prof. Kirill Korolev) assignment today. It is a great fit and worth the wait. Good luck.

@connorp For me, it took a week. If he’s studying a popular subject, it might be harder to find a mentor. Best thing to do is wait it out I guess.

By accepted, do you guys mean that they sent you an email saying that they were in the process of looking for a mentor? I got that email today, but I wasn’t sure what they were trying to imply because it said that they couldn’t guarantee a spot in the program until they found a mentor.

@saxmaster27 Yes, or at least that was my presumption

@saxmaster27 That’s the same email I got. Basically you are guaranteed a spot in either this program or their High School Honors Program where you take two semesters worth of classes. I was told they offer you placement in the latter if they can’t find a mentor.

I applied regular decision because I love the idea of research… I was given the “we are trying to find a mentor for you” a few days ago. What do I do if I was accepted into SSP and have committed to it? Should I email them back right away stating I cannot attend BU RISE if given the opportunity? Lol, I now find it funny how I couldn’t even get into this local summer program, but I’ve been accepted to MOSTEC, SSP, and BU RISE during this school year :P…

@Newdle Well, if you wanted to see what mentor you would have gotten if you went to SSP, you don’t have to email them back. Emailing them back though will expedite the process for the people who are currently also waiting for the mentor to be given, since I’m sure they spend a lot of time to pick a mentor for you specifically which they could have used for others.

Yah I just hope it’s not rude to do that :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi! I got a letter saying that they are looking for a mentor for me but “can’t guarantee my spot.” This was my first choice but I got accepted into my second choice for sure. Problem is I have to let them know by Friday…what should I do? Does this mean I’m accepted?

@kookypuppy98 that just means that they are still looking for a mentor, so you’re not necessarily rejected. I’m having the same problem, and I just let the other program know that I am coming just to reserve the spot. At this point, RISE is pretty much lost cause unless you happen to get lucky in finding a mentor at the last minute (since all the friends I know at school already have found mentors except me :frowning:

Just got accepted into a bioinformatics lab

Is anyone going from the Bay Area? (Looking for a travel buddy  )
