I’ll start

Accepted, as a Faculty Scholar, with an early write

Objective

[ul]
[] SAT I (CR, M, W): 2120, didn’t send but they show up on the transcript. (690, 710, 720, 10E)
[]ACT (breakdown): 34, did send. All 34 except reading (33) and English PLUS Essay (35), 12 on essay
[]SAT II (place score in parentheses): Didn’t send, but to prove that I’m nowhere near super human, I got a 710 Lit and 750 Math I.
[]Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): like 3.96
[]Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/227
[]AP (place score in parentheses): 33444555
[]Senior Year Course Load: AP Lit, AP Stats, APUSH, physics (no AP/Honors available), band (this is really the hardest courseload possible at my school)
[]Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): some NHD stuff, a bunch of state-level awards, NMF, whatever AP award
[/ul]

Subjective

[ul]
[]Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses) : band (section leader, principal clarinet), lit anthology )editor in chief), debate (captain)
[]Job/Work Experience: nope
[]Volunteer/Community Service: nope
[]Summer Activities: some NHD, but sleeping and reading for the most part
[]Essays: I don’t believe that I can judge how good my own essay is. It couldn’t have been bad, given the result. My Bowdoin essay was about connection to place, I talked about the uniqueness of my community and what I’ve learned from it and how it shaped me.
[]Teacher Recommendations: Can’t be bad. Probably some reiteration of my resume. I chose my English and social studies teacher, and those two are probably my best subjects.
[]Counselor Rec: Probably generic because we only have one counselor per class. Very favorable, though.
[]Additional Rec: nope
[li]Interview: nope[/li][/ul]

Other

[ul]
[]State (if domestic applicant): HI
[]School Type: public
[]Ethnicity: White and Asian
[]Income Bracket: between 100k and 200k
[li]Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.) : not really, I don’t think. I speak a rare language, and am very intertwined with the culture despite not being it ethnically.[/li][/ul]

Reflection

[ul]
[]Strengths: test scores, GPA, geographic location
[]Weaknesses: race (but I don’t think Asians are nearly as easy to come by at Bowdoin as they are in HYPS), my extracurriculars are kind of generic.
[]Why you think you received your decision: geographic diversity. My story’s pretty interesting and unique.
[]Where else you have applied and/or have been accepted/rejected: Accepted Vanderbilt (early write), UMD (Banneker/Key), Alabama (NMF scholarship), Pitt (full tuition), Swarthmore (early write), Deferred Yale EA, also applied to HYPS, Columbia, Amherst, Colby, Carleton. I withdrew from Washington and Lee.
[/ul]

General comments/advice/hindsight: I got my Faculty Scholar certificate and admission package in the mail today. If after I talk to the financial aid office on Monday and I can get the package down to something near what the NPC says it should be, Bowdoin will definitely be a serious contender, especially with the Faculty Scholar stipend and the 2k/yr they give for National Merit.

Congrats! I’m awaiting my decision. I kind of applied to Bowdoin on a whim. Not expecting much from it, but would certainly be incredibly surprised and overwhelmed should I be accepted.

Does anyone know when decisions come out?

@collegebound752 The website says “Early April,” so I’m guessing they don’t have a set date yet. Last year it was March 21, according to the CC thread, so it’s likely that everyone will get their decision emails before early April.

Accepted! (With an early write as well)

Objective

[ul]
[] SAT I (CR, M, W): (800, 680, 800)
[]ACT: 33 (35 English, 35 Reading, 33 Math, 29 Science)
[]SAT II (place score in parentheses):
[]Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0):
[]Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): No ranks, but top 3%
[]AP (place score in parentheses): US History(5), English Comp(5), European History(5), and taking Calc AB, Spanish Lang, English Lit, Psych, and Chemistry in May
[]IB (place score in parentheses): n/a
[]Senior Year Course Load: Yearbook, All AP’s Calc AB, Spanish Lang, English Lit, Psych, and Chemistry
[li]Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Cum Laude Society, AP Scholar, plethora of honor societies, U Rochester Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award (on a side note, message to all sophomores and juniors: if your school usually does not have people getting different book awards and specific college awards, get a teacher to try to nominate you for one because they’re named awards and based primarily on grades)[/li][/ul]

Subjective

[ul]
[]Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses): Various programs related to medicine [Volunteer work at a hospital for a considerable amount of time, DukeTIP Tropical Medicine & Ethnobiology Course, other local programs in which I was able to shadow various medical professionals], State-specific Mock Trial (Team Captain) and Congress programs, Key Club (Treasurer), Technology Fair, other minor clubs
[]Job/Work Experience: Worked for a start-up website with
[]Volunteer/Community Service: included in extracurriculars
[]Summer Activities: included in extracurriculars
[]Essays: Worked a ton on my common app essay, but wasn’t sure what admission officers would think of me. Thankfully it turned out positively in this case. My Bowdoin-specific essay turned out well as well.
[]Teacher Recommendations: Chose the two teachers whose classes I participated in the most and also had very good grades in. My History teacher’s rec was apparently very good, as my college counselor told me she now uses it as an example of a good rec.
[]Counselor Rec: I knew my counselor very well from going in to her office often, and it was probably good as well. I don’t really know how much this affects the process though
[]Additional Rec: None
[li]Interview: On-Campus interview, went very well and probably helped my application. My interviewee was very nice and made me comfortable enough to really show her who I was as a person.[/li][/ul]

Other

[ul]
[]State (if domestic applicant): AL
[]Country (if international applicant):
[]School Type: Private
[]Ethnicity: White
[]Income Bracket: the very little aid if any bracket
[]Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): perhaps geographical diversity as my common app essay was characteristically Southern, but I believe that most admission officers don’t put too much weight into this
[/ul]

Reflection

[ul]
[]Strengths: large amount of work in medically themed activities, test scores and grades
[]Weaknesses: not many leadership positions
[]Why you think you received your decision: Well, that’s a bit difficult for me to really put a finger on. I think the interest I have shown in Bowdoin probably helped tremendously. All I know is that I am happy to have been accepted.
[li]Where else you have applied and/or have been accepted/rejected: [/li][] Accepted to: University of Alabama, Ole Miss, Birmingham Southern, with good enough scholarships to each to make them very easy to go to from a financial standpoint
[li]Waiting for: several schools similar to Bowdoin (Middlebury, Amherst, Williams, Davidson, Washington and Lee), two Ivys (Brown and Princeton), Vanderbilt.[/li][/ul]

General comments/advice/hindsight:
Bowdoin is in a group of about 4 that are tied for my top choice, so I’m extremely happy to be getting this acceptance as I could really see myself going there. In hindsight, I’m very glad that I visited many of these colleges last summer with my mother because I’m not entirely sure that I’ll be able to go to any of the April visit days/weekends due to my tight schedule. Also, in hindsight after reflecting upon some of the schools that I applied to (not including Bowdoin of course), I would say not to apply to any schools that you really can’t see yourself going to because it wastes not only your time and money but also the time of the admission officers and destroys the chances of students who would really want to go there. Anyway, good luck in your application process and thanks for reading!

Also, don’t know why I skipped the sections, but SAT II: US History(750) and Literature(770). and 4.0+ GPA

Don’t take the “early April” statement seriously. The Bowdoin decisions have gone out in the last week or so of March as long as I can remember. I would expect them to be delivered some time next week if past is prologue. .

Will it be sent out by email?

@torasee you are absolutely correct. “Early April” is likely just a placeholder date – they’ll likely announce a definite date this week. Most LACs still have their date set as by April 1, despite historically always releasing before April 1.

@txhandan I believe that decisions will be sent out by email. Those getting acceptances can expect USPS mail to follow a few days after, but I’m not sure if the waitlist/denies will get mail.

I assume every applicant can check the decision online once its available?

@txhandan Decisions will be emailed. I don’t think you’ll have to log into the Bowdoin Polaris account except to access financial aid awards.

My son was notified in an email on March 22nd last year. It must have been an early evening release 'cos I was cooking dinner. :)

I’m crossing my fingers for a decision this Friday! All the colleges are releasing decisions so late!

My counselor gave them a call yesterday about my deferred application. They said a decision would be coming soon. So I guess these is evidence to say we will hear from them within this week.

Nice work, accepted people.

The decisions will be released at about 7 PM on March 21 – that’s this Friday. The post also says that the decisions will be coming to you via e-mail.

Wooooah… so soon. Thank you!

On which post does it say that the decisions will be released on March 21st, 7 pm? Just curious.
I feel like Bowdoin would be a good choice for me, but I’m sceptical whether or not I will get in and that too with a good financial aid package. Bowdoin seems like kind of a long shot for me!

It says it on their official Facebook page, as well as their website. Also, Bowdoin is very generous with financial aid, and meet demonstrated need. They’re incredibly well endowed, so if you’re lucky enough to be admitted you should be fine.
