I’m not sure if this kind of question belongs here. Between Verizon and Sprint, which is the best cellphone service provider to use on Bowdoin’s campus and in Brunswick? Thanks

If Verizon and Sprint are your only two options, I’m not sure, but if AT&T is a possibility, that’s a good choice, I’d say. S got materials from Bowdoin last week that say there’s an AT&T 3G cell tower on campus and discounted service is available for Bowdoin students. There’s a handy iPhone app for the Bowdoin dining halls. With the new iPhone coming out this summer, AT&T service sounds attractive. (I don’t work for AT&T, just a satisfied customer, and we love our iPhones). We’ve had no problems with reception/service traveling around in the area either.

I am about to get my daughter an iphone. How do I go about it? Do you got to AT&T and sign the contract? Or do you go to an Apple store?

Igloo – It has to be by service contract (2 yr.) with AT&T as far as I know. Either at the store or possibly on line. I’ve always gone to a store. New 4G iPhone due out in June or July, so probably worth waiting for that if D can wait.

poisonparrot – there’s talk of Verizon having iPhone sometime in 2010, but right now I think AT&T has exclusive deal with Apple

Thank you for the tip. She can wait a month or two.

For me getting AT&T is a last resort because AT&T’s signal is bad where I live. I don’t want to be without a cellphone whenever I go back home, so if I can find a phone that has excellent reception at both here and at college that would be a lot better. Also I’m going for a Blackberry, not a iPhone, so i guess that doesnt really apply to me.

I’ve done alittle more research to better weigh my decision,

AT&T’s Blackberry come more expensive ($100 more), and at a higher rate compared to Sprint($10 per month higher). Please, if anyone knows if Bowdoin Campus has great signal for any other services please let me know.

I have stayed on verizon. I don’t get service everywhere but it hasn’t been that much of a problem
