Hi… I was just wondering what cell phone service gets the best reception in Brunswick and also what kind of laptops do most people have at Bowdoin? Apple or PC? I have always been a PC user but I love the look of the Apple laptops… will it take me awhile to learn how to use the Apple? Thanks.

Cingular has excellent reception

most of my friends use verizon (as do i).

What about the laptops? I've used a PC my entire life, but nearly everyone has recommended that I get an apple laptop.

apples rule the earth. trust me. invest the extra money. you're already paying 40+ for Bowdoin...Macs incarnate the very notion of technology: the facilitation of life. I was raised on Macs and stick shift cars, and will never resort to anything else.

either will work here in terms of apple versus PC. I personally have a PC.

apparently cingular service is going to be getting better (or so i've heard). cingular and verizon are pretty much equal though so if you already have a nationwide plan with one of those, stick with it. i don't think anyone really uses anything else. and get whichever computer you're most comfortable with. macs are better (obviously, haha) but if you insist on getting a pc, tons of people have them so don't worry about it--you'll be the one using it, so get the one that you'll get the most use out of.

okay.. so i've been using PCs.. are Apples hard to use? Like do they come with Microsoft Word and normal software that PCs come with?

I don't think macs are worth their price.

That being said, I would love to have a macbook pro.

They're easy to pick up and start using.

No, macs don't come with microsoft word--you either have to buy it or you can download it free through the college. What other normal software are you talking about? Pretty much everything that would be necessary (not games, necessarily..obviously..) comes in a mac version and anything that is required through bowdoin is free (i'm pretty sure, but don't quote me on that). I'd love a macbook pro too, but i have an ibook and i lovelovelove it. it's super cute and really durable and so much easier to use than a pc. this is obviously just my opinion, but there you have it.

Both PCs and Macs will work well here. I personally use a PC and cannot imagine myself using a Mac.

does anyone use sprint?? or does anyone know if it works well for cell phones?

I have sprint and when I visited Bowdoin I could make calls, but it was roaming the entire time.
