Boys' State

I've heard from several people that quite a bit of prestige comes along with Boys' State (equivalent to an Eagle Scout?). Can anyone confirm this? Also, is there any preparatory work I can do to better my chances of making Boys' Nation or gaining any other high position? Thank you to everyone who gives me their two cents.

At least in Missouri, you cannot prepare any campaign materials to bring with you to the program. I would suggest thinking about your platform and reading the manual that we received at the orientation meeting. When you get there, work on getting your name out to your peers and let them know your goals. Being friendly and confident will go a long way, but in the end it might just come down to natural charisma. Good luck! I’m attending Missouri Boy’s State this summer and I hope to run for mayor and win model city! Ambition is key.
I’m also an Eagle Scout :)

@premedpoet you’re quite the double-threat! But my orientation meeting isn’t for another week or so in my neck of the woods. I know a couple kids who went last year so I’ve been talking to them. They recommend taking the Bar exam (not sure if they have that in Mizz). I’m really excited!

The Bar as in the Boy’s State Bar Exam? There are different schools of instruction at Boy’s State (ex. Broadcasting, Law Enforcement), and one specifically is the Law School. Here, if you pass “the Bar,” you are eligible to practice law at Boy’s State. I personally plan to enter either Democracy Academy or the Law School when I attend. Also, the representative at my orientation meeting said that he had secured 22 votes on the bus on the way to the program, that’s definitely a way to go about it. Boy’s Nation is extremely tough to get into, however, as only 2 citizens from each State are elected as Senators.
On the plus side, even if you aren’t elected for a major public office, you can still interview for Boy’s Nation. Even the Governor has to interview.

I’m really under informed–thanks for all the info! I’m definitely going to go all out for the Boys’ Nation, but a girl I know who went to Girls’ Nation is fairly shy but incredibly nice. I suppose there are just different ways of going about it.
