Brag about Rutgers! show it off to prospective Students...

Hello, me and my friends are having a difficult time committing to RU, I got 100% tuition covered but, we are having problems choosing it over Penn State. I hope this will make the difference for us and many others in the future...
in general, what is so good about Rutgers. talk in your case not ours (dont worry about what I or one of my friends want, just talk about your experiences).
you can include, but not limited to, comments about
- Academics
- Dorms
- Research and internships
- Non Greek/ Greek parties (I herd about the ratio BTW. lol)
- Food
- Would you pick another state school over Rutgers
As a matter of fact just put down what you can!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME :)

LOL nothing nice to say about RU?

In terms of doing things, I would definitely choose Rutgers over Penn State. I don’t go there (yet), but all I can say is that there is waaaaaayyyyyy more to do. I know like 15 people who went to Penn State and ALL of them come back saying “there’s nothing to do.” Rutgers NB, which is in a nice city, has plenty more + it’s close to NYC and the Shore :)

Academics - We have the overall 2nd best engineering in the state of New Jersey. We also discovered streptomycin, which was the first effective way to treat turberculosis.

Research - Over 50% undergraduate students from all colleges at Rutgers are involved in research or internship.

Dorms - :(

Parties - No comment.

Food - It’s not the worst, it’s not the best.

Other - ESPN and AOL were created by Rutgers graduates. Believe or not, Rutgers is quite prestigious outside of New Jersey.

I chose Rutgers over Penn State because of the price compared to the level of academics. If you, however, seek aesthetic appeal on Rutgers campuses, you won’t find any. That being said, both schools are good schools, and they have comparable academics.

My friend’s 3 kids went to Rutgers. The older one hated it and the two younger ones are loving it. It is not the school but YOU. It is what you make out of it. My son had many choices of schools and decided to go to RU. It got prestigious, perfect distance to home and the city, a lot of majors and minors to choose from, excellent sports, great city and at the perfect price. You can’t beat that. Good luck with your decision.

I’m going to be a junior next semester, and I love it here. The social life is great, academics are quite good, the dorms are iffy, and the food can be good especially with the new dining hall on the livingston campus, which is AMAZING. Rutgers was my third choice school, first I heard from, and I couldn’t be happier. The athletics and school spirit is pretty good. I saw Penn State also, and it was too big. Rutgers is a perfect fit (for me at least). And the buses are pretty convenient (except on the weekend).

Hope my comment helps =)

What is your intended major? that can be a big influence

Astrophysics and Computer science. probably be there for 5 years. Do you know anything about the astrophysics program, I know a lot about the comp science but I head that the astro major is not as strong and is rated very low… This is one of the things troubling me.

BTW thank you every one, this is the nicest forum in CC. if I had put this in the Yale forum, they would have told me to go somewhere else and say nasty things (Just saying).
YOU ROCK!

Obviously they’d tell you to go away if you posted a question about Rutgers in the Yale forum…

Rutgers is just like NJ…there’s something for everyone here. You just need to find your niche, have an open/tolerant mind to others and tune out the jerks.

Nj mom would you say there is a large proportion of these jerks?
P.S B.Blue I was talking about posting about Yale lol they would be vicious about it and anything you ask, but I get where you are coming from.

I wouldn’t put other schools down. According to my personal experience, there are quite a few, well, dumb@sses at Rutgers. This is expected and nothing surprising since Rutgers is a huge school. So I wouldn’t necessarily judge any school based on its forum.

^^^ true but, Well, at this point I need only the positives since I hear about the negatives at school. so if you have anything that will make RU look good now would be a nice time to do it.

there are a lot of friendly people at school, and it’s always nice to meet people in your classes, and there are professors who really want you to do well. It’s a great school
