Pros and Cons of Rutgers

I've been accepted into Rutgers, and I really like the academic program from what I've seen, but I've heard mixed things about the school itself, and campus life. Can any current students give me the pros and cons of the University, especially NB campus?

I really like Rutgers and I'm happy with my decision to come here, so you should know that my view will prob be more on the pro side.

Pros:
-- large school = tons of opportunities (lots of opps for involvement and organizations, lots of opps for research, lots of people to meet)
-- great faculty - most of my profs have been great and have welcomed me to office hours etc. 99% got their degrees from the top ranked schools (ivys, berkeley, etc. etc.) and a lot are currently the tops in their field
-- social life-- New Brunswick is nice w/ a lot of restaurants. RCPC and LPB (programming councils) put on a lot of shows and trips. partying is good on college avenue, people are nice... i dunno I've had a fun time. Also, train is right in NB and you can hop on one to NYC every 1/2 hr... I haven't gone to philly but you can go there too.

Cons:
-- some faculty are more into their research than students. not most, but definately some.
-- its big... if you're not proactive (rutgers will teach you to be, though) or tend to get lost in the crowd, rutgers can seem huge and you can feel lonely i suppose. living on campus greatly diminshes that though.

Mmmm thats a quick overview... if you want me to go into more detail on anything else let me know.

agreed with the above and please also note that what campus you decide to live on affects your social life to some degree. Let's just say that it is a huge pain to get to cook/douglass from anywhere else without a car. Otherwise, social life above stands true.

I would even venture to say that your social life will be substantially better if you live on College Ave. I am from the area so I have friends on like every part of campus, buses are just annoying when you are trying to go out at night. If you want to go to Rutgers, apply for housing soon to make sure you are on College Ave.

how is the newark campus and the bajd program i heard that the campus is crime ridden or is it just the city itself

i heard rutgers has the highest std rate in the country... i've heard it many times from many sources

That's pretty much an urban rumor.
