I recently asked teachers for letter of recommendations and one of them said to give them a brag sheet, but another said to give them a resume so is there any difference between the 2 of them?
At our school a brag sheet was more in paragraph form plus a list of awards, activities, jobs, volunteer work. They has questions to answer to let them see what you wanted to highlight about yourself. It was more than a resume and gave them a lot to work with. Ours was a form on Naviance so it made it easy. There was one for the student to fill out and one for the parent to fill out. We ended up with awesome LORs from that!
As a teacher, here’s what I’m looking for:
Anything that’s well organized that will help me write you the letter you want and deserve.
I don’t care about the formatting. But I want access to the info I need. So if your resume doesn’t explain, it’s not going to work well. And if your brag sheet is a 2 page essay, it’s going to take me forever to sort through it.
For example, if your resume says “Eagle Scout” that tells me the minimum. But if you follow it up telling me what your Eagle Scout project was, it may provide something I can use-- particularly if it ties in to your major, the subject I teach, or education in general.
