Bringing a TV to my dorm room?

I'll be a freshman next year and my roommate and I were wondering whether or not a TV is worth bringing to campus. We would likely use it to watch sports games and play xbox, but we're both pretty social people and will likely spend a lot of time outside of the dorm room. Could any current students comment on the practicality and usefulness of having a TV in your dorm room?

Do you know if cable is available in your dorm?

It really couldn’t hurt, provided that you’ll have enough space in your room for it. I didn’t have a TV freshman year and I survived, but I liked having one my sophomore year. I didn’t pay for cable because I tended to be ready to watch TV at like 11/midnight, far after things aired live. I also left my Wii home after winter break because I was barely using it, but I really liked having my DVD player, especially in the winter…December-March was pretty brutal this year, and hopefully this winter will be much better, but you/your roommate/your friends may be spending more time in your room than you think :)

You should definitely bring a TV.

You probably won’t spend a lot of time watching TV. However, since you like to watch sports, you should certainly bring a TV. It’s a lot more convenient to watch sports in your room instead of looking for a public TV. I am a big sports fan and I regretted not having a TV my freshman year.

I got a TV Stick (USB) for my D to plug into her laptop in case she want to watch some TV. Here is a list of channels available (grey and blue ones only).

If your parents have NetFlix streaming or Direct TV (and probably other providers) at home note that you can use those services remotely on your computer and maybe on your TV with Xbox or otherwise so make sure you know the user name and passwords for those service.
