British student applying to UCLA & USC

hey guys, i'm going to be applying to the two schools above for entry in 2012 and i'm taking the SAT test in england in a about a month. What are scores which they would accept me? I know these arent set in stone but rough estimate would be nice. Also i'm applying to the TV and film courses at the uni's not the academic courses so are the SAT's n stuff that important or more based on talent and my EC work.

thanks :D

Assuming the rest of your application is strong (grades, ECs, etc), an SAT score of say 2200 or above should put you in pretty good shape for those schools. And many kids get in with lower scores than that, but the lower you go the more questionable your admission becomes.

Before you can get into the film and TV program you must first be admitted to the university. And for that purpose the SATs will be very important.

Also, there are other film schools worth looking at besides USC and UCLA. Take a look at Chapman university or Long Beach State.

thanks, I do have english qualifications too. would that make any difference to my admissions?

I believe that you do not enter UCLA’s fillm school until the third year. With USC you can get in as a first year student.

By the way, are you interested in production or critical studies?

The UC admissions website has detailed profiles for last year’s admitted freshman class.
For UCLA, here’s the breakdown:

SAT Critical Reading between 700-800: 55% accepted
SAT CR between 600-690: 28% accepted

SAT Math 700-800: 45% accepted
SAT Math 600-690: 19% accepted

SAT Writing 700-800: 52% accepted
SAT Writing 600-690: 24% accepted.

I want to do the production. But i really dont think I can get 2100+, i taken a mock SAT test recently n i only got a 1600, 470 in maths, 600 in critical reading and 530 in written which i got a 12 on essay but did bad in MC, i felt rushed i thought. I’m confident I can relearn all the maths stuff to get 600+. (I havent actually done any maths in 5 years, so with some practice i should be able to get a decent score)
I think my EC’s are good and personal statements/portfolio work should be good enough as well for the two schools.
