You guys are always so nice about answering questions when you can. So I'm reposting this. I originally posted it under Summer Programs.

Can anybody give me information about Broadway Theatre Project? My D just got her acceptance letter. She auditioned for 5 summer programs, and this is the first one she's heard from and they want a nonrefundable deposit this month. She has a lot of questions. She wants to know how many people attend the program. She wants to know if the master class artists really teach classes to the "apprentices," or if it's more like lectures. She wants to know how good the voice lessons are. What is their final performance like? If anybody knows how it compares with the following pre-college programs, that would help too. She auditioned for OCU, University of Michigan, and University of Miami.

hi mtmommy,
this is MTaussies S. I attended BTP last year and would be willing to answer any of your Ds questions. As to the questions you posted here goes:

number of people, last year there were 170 apprentices, but that was a very big year, I've heard from friends of 150-160 usually.

the master classes are a mixture of lecture and "hands on". The dance classes are taught classes, not just lectures. The acting classes can be either lectures or learning through doing/watching. It is the same for the singing. But no matter what type of class it is, lecture or hands on, the apprentices learn a lot.
3.the vocal lessons are fantastic. there are scheduled classes for large groups, but apprentices are also given the opportunity to sign up for private coachings/lessons with any of the voice faculty.

the final performance is like a big broadway show. its at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, on a big stage with lights and everything. It's a whole lot of fun, and it is the perfect ending to the three weeks of classes and rehersals.

if you have any other questions I'd be glad to answer them as best i can, also I would suggest going to the BTP website, and posting questions on their forum, that way you'll get a responses from apprentices from all over and with different experiences.

I went to BTP last year. I am a senior now. It is awesome. The talent there is INCREDIBLE. Most of the apprentices are older, some were coming off or going on broadway tours. I didn't think there was as many as 170 people, but there may have been. You work very closely with Ann Reinking who is amazing and Ken Alan (the blonde From Fosse) taught most of my dance classes. He WAS AMAZING, GORGEOUS AND LOVED US and HIMSELF!!! The voice lessons are great and so are the master classes. Also, when you get there you may be asked to be in special numbers besides the big group numbers---I was in an Irish step tap dance and a incredible modern peice with this crazy talented teacher. I can't say enough about the program. It is a once iin a lifetime opportunity. I would suggest she go. Good luck.

P.S. At every college audition I am asked about it because they all know about it (I have been accepted to Syracuse ED for Acting)

I'm pretty sure one of my best friends went there last year. MTaussie, would you happen to know someone by the name of Tiffany who ent there last year?

Shortnsweet,
You sound just like my son! (LOL) I think he was actually in that "crazy" modern number you mentioned. His first name begins with the letter "N'. I got him to sign up on CC and he will be posting under Emcee06. He's just finished playing the Emcee in Cabaret at his school and is working hard at catching up at dance and school. I'll push him to write to you privately.

Mtfan, I'll ask S or get him to read your post. There were over 160 kids at BTP last year so he might know your friend Tiffany but there were many kids he didn't get to know at all because they were on different "tracks".

Sasha1: Last year my S sent a tape and this year he did a live audition because they actually held the auditions at his dance studio here in Michigan. Also 2 of my husband's student have been accepted. One auditioned live and the other sent a tape. I don't think it makes much, if any, difference. I do know my S prefered the live audition. This may have been because he already knew the people who were running the auditions and he felt very comfortable.
