Had to share! D’s friend is the new Ti Moune on Broadway! SO excited for her! Dreams can come true!
@stagedoormama Very exciting time for this young lady! I’m looking forward to watching her start rise!
I had read about her casting earlier today, but on Playbill. The Playbill article has a video about the casting, and the fun part is seeing her reaction when she was told she got the part! I’ll post the link as others may enjoy watching. I have always loved Once on This Island, particularly the music. My D has played TiMoune and Little TiMoune (different productions).

@soozievt I have also always loved the show even with no child ever in the cast! Worth noting also cast member, Alysha Deslorieaux (sp?) has a CC connection through her college audition coach (Mary Anna Dennard) and she is a Cincinnati Conservatory graduate
I notice she’s another AMDA kid- interesting
She is.
Hailey is tremendously talented. We have a mutual friend who has coached and worked with her for a while now and he is over the moon with her casting. @stagedoormama , I wonder if your D knows him, too?
Perhaps b/c this is COLLEGE confidential- as a community we generally seem to focus on the 4 year path… but this young lady, and the girl from the Wiz last year, show there can be merit in other options as well. (Still glad my kid will end up with a degree, but just saying)
@alwaysamom I know exactly who you are talking about!
@toowonderful Not sure I understand what you mean by saying “interesting”. I am curious to know?
@Notmath1 - I thought I kind of explained in #7, but sure. I will freely admit that I know NOTHING about AMDA - we never looked into stand alone conservatories of any kind. BUT, I have read what I will call “less than flattering” comments on CC about AMDA in the past. However, the casting of these two young ladies seem to show that some people with serious chops choose that program (I have to believe they would have been successful in BFA auditions). My “interesting” was more about the different paths people choose.
My only issue for my D with AMDA was the fact that it is wildly expensive, not sure about accreditation if she decides to pursue a Master’s and less than ideal living situations both at the LA and NYC campuses. Also, they are not as discriminating and take very large numbers of students which affects class sizes and performance opportunities. She has a close friend at AMDA in LA and he is thriving there - absolutely loves it and it is a great fit for him although funding it has created issues for his family. Like most programs, you sometime get back what you put in but he has commented that it is often apparent who the cream of the crop are in terms of natural talent and they get the bulk of the attention from instructors. However, this young man is very talented and who knows what will happen? Lots of successful working performers seems to emerge from their program and almost every show I attend has an AMDA grad on the Playbill so they are clearly doing something right, even if it is just taking a high volume students to assure a cadre of working grads. It isn’t for everyone and it wasn’t a fit for my daughter, but I would say they are clearly a good fit for some and provide good training for many students.
Love that this musical is starting careers for some young talent. Isaac Powell just graduated from UNCSA in May 2017 and is cast as Daniel. This will be such a great show.
It could be said that even the BFA grads, (like Alysha from CCM and Dennard), could have booked Broadway on their own, or having trained only at AMDA as @toowonderful says they are “people with serious chops”
