sneakypete, i second that. educating the masses with good music besides britney spears is a good thing

I third it. My friend never heard of the Dandy Warhols until the OC CD, and now she loves them.

OH, I love you people! Now I want to go to Brown twice as much! My favorite writers are Gore Vidal (who wrote about Brown's famous alum. John Hay), Ian McEwan (post "child in time") and Salmon Rushdie. I listen to "indie" music- SPOON, Belle and Sebastian, Of Montreal, Camera Obscura etc. I'm a political junky and my favorite magazines are the economist and the Atlantic. I also loved "I heart Huckabees" and my favorite designer is Mark Jacobs (what a homogenous bunch we are!) I'm quite new to the whole U.S. application system because I grew up in England and my sisters both attended art schools in London. Up until this year I thought class rank was just a chance to be competitive with your classmates and wasn't aware it played any role in admissions (oh, how wrong was I). As a result mine is not too stellar and I fear it's unlikely that I'll get the chance to partake in deep philosophical conversations at Brown with all you brilliant people! It certainly won't keep me from trying ....wow, that was long

so...I'm new to this thread but hope to fit in just the same.... I want to attend Brown in the class of 2010(despite all my friends' wanting to go to Princeton).....I wanna major in maths.....have also interests in psychology....dance(wanna be a member in the dance club!!!)...like to listen to music...hang out with friends(not too much though)...almost all-day on-line...all the usual...well I really hope to meet everyone in about a year!

Gambadent, you're ultra-cool x 128213482095328952 just 'cos your English.

I might not have mentioned it previously, but I'm also obsessed with the UK and Ireland.

Hi everybody! I would looove to be a part of the 2010 class at Brown! I fell in love with Brown earlier this year and I'm dying to go there so badly. I just love everything about it - the environment, the city, the people, the fact that it's liberal and laid-back; it just fits me perfectly. Well, I live just outside of Houston, TX but I was born in Colombia and then lived in California for 8 years. I love art and animals (my two passions!), I want to double major in Economics and Psychology, and I am obsessed with foreign languages. Right now I just speak 3 (although I definitely need to improve my French) but I would love to learn Italian and Portuguese one day. You guys all sound awesome and it would be great to meet you all at Brown next year! (if I happen to get in)

I was born in NYC, was raised in New Jersey and currently live in Kentucky. I play guitar and sing with the majority of my free time. I'm interested in a Drama Major. I work at a local grocery store about 35+ hours a week. I will hopefully be working less once school starts. I played freshman football but quit because I couldn't stand being treated like a mindless soldier. I still lift weights every day though. I am an avid liberal but I still find time to go to a southern baptist youth group despite my atheism. I just had to turn my best friend in for bringing a gun to school and he is currently in prison. I have been acting since I was 5 and plan to try to become a film actor. I am hell-bent on the legalization of recreational marijuana use by adults. I have never been in a fight. I was Junior Prince at prom this year. I had a 2.5 average my fresh and soph years but turned around and started making straight A's. I recieve private voice lessons and I am in advanced choir and drama. I love all things comedic. My favorite shows are Family Guy, South Park, Chappelle's Show, Saturday Night Live and The Simpson's. I am a food addict. I am a party-er. Favorite Author: Douglas Adams (read the Dirk Gently books, not just Hitchhiker's Guide although it is incredible also, just a little too popularized now, which is never cool) Favorite Actor: Robert DeNiro, Favorite Movie: Jurasic Park (Fell in love with it as a kid) Favorite Play: Luv by Murray Schisgal, if acted properly, Favorite State: New Jersey!!!! Favorite Sport: Backyard Football, Favorite Director: Steven Spielberg, if you haven't seen it yet, go see War of the Worlds, it really impressed me. To sum it up I like to think of my self as a layed back, really funny, athletic, self-defeating, underachieving, pot smoking, guitar playing, loud singing, below the Mason Dixon line Jersey boy.

so.... basically I'm the average Ivy league student, right?

Ivy League Student.... average... hah

Well, I also love Brown. Im from NJ (woohoo), and I play guitar in my spare time also. I love family guy, futurama, aqua teen hunger force, and a bunch of other shows. I intend to double major in Philosophy & Psychology, fun stuff. I pretend to be an intellectual, and most of the time people buy it. I rarely take anything seriously, which I guess is both good and bad. But anyways, I have to catch myself before I start rambling, which I am doing right.... now. Well, good luck to all of you guys. hope everyone gets in.

Yay Dandy Warhols! Oregon represent....:D

Efflugent: Some Ani songs to try

Not a pretty girl (you've got that covered)
Imperfectly
Out of me, onto you
Shy (from living in clip)
I'm no heroin (from living in clip)
Little plastic castle

haha, I pretend to be intellectual too, but unfortunately most people do not buy it. Also, I thought I was the only one who loved getting the mail, now I know there are others...

Hi, I just randomly found this site recently and have been reading the posts ever since. I love Brown! I also think if all the people in here got into the class of 2010 that would be excellent. Everyone has such good taste in music here. I myself also enjoy Ani Difranco (it seems to be a consensus) as well as Doves, Belle & Sebastian, Bjork, to name a few. I also love weird independent movies and would kill to visit Greece!

guernica--I LOVE aqua teen. Shake is my favorite, even though most people like Meatwad.

I just got back from taking Philosophy East and West at Brown--it was a three week summer course. I am also really interested in econ, especially international/developmental. I love mock trial, not wearing shoes, hugging trees, discussing politics, discussing philosophy, and drinking chai tea (there is an amazing tea place on Thayer Street reallllly close to Brown campus...ah I love Brown). I love the raging liberalism. I hate talk radio, with the exception of NPR. I really want to study abroad in Oxford and/or Barcelona. That's about it...

A lot of awesome people here. Good left lean like you said aderoberts. Let's see, I'm from fairfield county in CT... My freshman and sophomore year grades are a bit low from lack of motivation, but then I realized I wanted to get into a good school, so I got em back up. I like soccer, biking, martial arts, reading and internetting and all kinds of other stuff. Absolutely no smoking or drinking for me, I can't stand that stuff. Listen to rock and punk and some other stuff for the most part. Went to Brown and it was an awesome place. I'll probably end up applying for the PLME. Well, good luck to all, it would be fun to meet everyone.

wow, so many cool people applying to Brown next year!!!!
I absolutely adore Brown as well, hopefully my grades are up to par. I'm also from Fairfeld county from CT, I moved from NJ to CT in 6th grade but I still feel like a Jersey girl. I went through an awful, awful stage in middle school when I thought I was ghetto, probably withdrawal symptoms from moving out of Hoboken.
I will be running on the cross country team in the fall but i'm totally new to the sport. I've been a vegetarian for 3 1/2 years, very big on animal rights. total environmental freak as well, in fact just came back from volunteering in Ecuador doing environmental conservation work. I'm obsessed with skin care and people probably think I have rhytiphobia.
I'm into all genres of music, lately it's been concentrated on Fiona Apple and Alanis. I'm really into politics as well, The Economist and Newshour with Jim Lehrer for me. I love French literature and Oscar Wilde.

does anyone else really like rain? percipitation in general rocks, i guess.

p.s. stay classy, aderoberts.

unstirredfondue, you must mean precipitation.

and of course I stay classy. always.

but anyway, the rain in Providence is really nice. it is beautiful on rainy as well as sunny days, and there are less people out.

i'm appling to brown RD for 2010!

african american male from houston area, but I attend school in the DFW area.
I love Spanish -- been studying abroad this summer in Valencia, Spain.
but i also love studying Japanese.

Want to pursue International Relations!

I'm applying to Brown RD for 2010.

Filipino girl from around SF / Berkeley. HELLA liberal.
I want to study abroad in Africa and Paris in college (I plan on taking French). Apparently everyone applying to Brown 2010 has good taste in music (or most... I haven't read all the posts). I like Belle&Sebastian, Dandy Warhols, The Rocket Summer, Rocky Votolato, Elliott Smith, Rufus Wainwright (seeing him Aug23!), The Shins, Death Cab... and much more. I watch the OC and Degrassi (♥ the n). I like reading, a lot. Chuck Palahniuk is my favorite, but of classics I love A Clockwork Orange, Brave New World, 1984, and The Stranger. I'm reading Crime and Punishment right now for AP English next year :P

I love cities, but I have a great fear that I am going to be far too poor to be able to indulge in any of Providence's great fun, since every penny I earn is most likely going to tuition. I love shopping and definitely pride myself on looking hot and do fashion my own way, and on a budget. I also am addicted to baseball and have been a red sox fan since I was 8.

karasoldout, our taste in music is very similar. You're seeing Rufus Wainwright later this month...I just saw him and Ben Folds last night and it was AWESOME! Also, I'm addicted to Degrassi and all the N shows! None of my friends know what it is because they don't get that station...oh well; they're missing out.
