^good reason. although I’ve heard brown isn’t academically rigorous. true?

I don’t think that the laid back atmosphere and academic rigor are necissarily discordant, which I think may be what’s confusing you.
I have a friend who goes to Brown, and according to him, the rumour, per se, of Brown not being academically rigorous is completely untrue. Don’t forget that it IS an Ivy League school.

btw, i enjoy your username

I also have a friend who goes to brown who says he literally gets 2-3 hours of sleep per night b/c he has to study so hard for his classes. You can only take a few classes pass/fail.

and also, ditto on mynameisrose’s explanation on why Brown>Harvard

Stupefy, your list is almost identical to mine! Except I really don’t like Columbia at all, but my parents are making me apply anyway.

ugh i hate that strict core curriculum thing that columbia, haverford, and chicago have. i’d never want to go to any of them.

@cadillac- columbias awesome!! :D

why thank you :D

Hello all! I’m so glad I finished Brown’s big supp. questions. I wrote both the What Don’t You Know and the Best Advice and am leaning towards the first one. Now onto the rest! Btw is it really true that if you turn in your applications earlier you have a better chance of getting accepted? Because if so, I’m screwed… :(

^ I believe they just have more time to analyze it, which could be a good or bad thing :)

Hello everyone…

another Rder on the block :)

Applying RD. my friend got in ED so we’ll see what happens. I havent put all my hopes in one basket so I won’t be too bummed out if i dont get in

Brown is my dream dream dream school, and although I have good stats and ECs and essays (I really like my what don’t you know!), Im not getting my hopes up too high since Im international :(

god I hope not o.o
I have yet to turn in my apps

Yeah I really doubt that’s true. I might be a little biased though haha b/c I haven’t turned in my app yet.

Applying RD here.

School had 1 ED acceptance and like 4 deferrals. =/

My school had one get deferred from PLME. That’s it. We do have a decent amount of RD applicants I think. We’ve been getting pummeled at the Ivies this year. Doing excellently at other top schools though.

RD applicant! Though my school has already had one student accepted ED into Brown, so I kind of feel like I’m screwed. Why would Brown want more than one student from my tiny, southern school?

My “what don’t you know” essay is completely different though…I even used InDesign to make it into a shape, haha. Anyway, it’s either going to kill or save my application. I guess I’ll find out this spring!

Brown’s off for the holidays now, and I think Adcom is, too, consequently. So no, they probably won’t begin to evaluate apps until Jan 1st. Also, they have to give everyone a similar amount of time (some more than others, of course) since their evaluations are pretty much the equivalent length of an essay.

I know I’m late on this, but Brown is definitely academically rigorous (it’s considered by most as one of the “worst” Ivies because of the admissions results their holistic approach yields), and most definitely better than Harvard. It has its fair share of competition, yes, but not to the extent that you will have to fear for the sterility/safety of test tubes, petri dishes, flasks, etc. No sabotage among Brunonians, that’s for sure! =]

how can you say there are “worse” ivies? they are all excellent institutions!

Thank goodness. Everyone has been telling me that and I’m like, “Nooooo!!!”
Brown’s amazing. Personally, it had the best, most friendly, and most passionate tour guide out of the 7 schools I visited. Oh Brown… how I love thee so… please accept me.

Should I send the CSS and FAFSA or just the FAFSA? I am a legal resident of USA.

:)
