Brown 2022 Waitlist

http://www.browndailyherald.com/2018/04/10/university-wait-list-size-draws-mixed-responses/

Just came here to post the same story @ciervo

How are you guys sending letters of continued interest? Emailing it to admissions or uploading through the portal?

Honestly, though, I’m a little sick of trying to convince colleges to let me in…it’s been 8 months of this stuff

So brown accepted 2,566 students this year and gave wait list offers to 2,724 people. Waiting on waitlist decisions is a waste of time

I picked USC

Good luck to all waitlisted. My son just turned down the spot at Brown.

Anyone knows the approximate date they’re going to release the final decision?

I assume that if they have spots they will start activating the waitlist today or tomorrow.

Looking back on past waitlist threads, I assume they’ll start using it around the 10th. I may be wrong and idek if theyll use it this year.

So I did a little search and found some interesting datas. All resources are from Brown’s official r

2020
ED+RD Admit: 2919
Yielded: 1600 (54%)
waitlist admitted: 82
final class size: 1682

2021
ED+RD Admit: 2722
Yielded: 1634 (60%)
waitlist admitted: 85
final class size: 1719

2022
ED+RD Admit: 2566
Yielded: TBD
waitlist admitted: TBD
Targeted class size: 1665

In order for Brown to meet its target size this year, the yielded rate will need to be 1665/2566 = 64.8%.

Brown accepted fewer people this year to meet a smaller class size. Comparing to last year, the number of admitted students dropped 5.7% while the targeted class size dropped 3.1%. There are few available spots and even fewer butts to fill them, which means that the yield rate of class of 2022 should increase comparing to that of 2021. So it is possible that Brown does not need the waitlist at all.

But things can turn out differently. Suppose this year is just weird and all the admitted students are also accepted at somewhere else. Even if Brown can keep the same yield rate as last year, that will mean 2566 x 60% = 1540 people accepting their offers. That will be 125 short of the targeted class size. So simply speaking, anything can happen.

Brown accepted around 42 more people this year through ED but significantly less (198 less) through RD this year. ED’s are definitely attending so you’d have to take that into consideration.

If anyone gets accepted from the waitlist, how long are they given before they need to give an enrollment deposit and accept their admission?

This is the first year that Brown doesn’t include student loans in its financial aid packages, which will make it much more competitive in yielding students vs. peers that already had removed loans from aid packages. My guess is that Brown is projecting a slight yield increase this year based on that factor alone.

@lbalacha 10 days would be my guess.

If my memory serves me correctly, it was a full 2 weeks (accepted may 17th, deadline may 31)

Did anyone who sent a LOCI get an email back?

They usually won’t reply

Anyone have inside news on whether Brown will be using the waitlist?

There’s no news. I hope that isn’t bad news

No news is normal. Neither bad nor good.
