I’ve heard Brown is not too set in what GPA they look for. ECs and essays are more important. Is this true, or is this something of an exaggeration?

i think it has to do with that brown is less of a numbers school.

If your numbers are in line as far as GPA/Rank and SAT's. You are one of the 10,000 people who qualify. Then they select who they want for the class.

Basically, a 2300 doesn't imprress them any more than a 2200, and a 5.4 doesn't impress them much more than a 4.8. At that point it's more about who you are.

Do you think they'd work the same way in transfer admissions?

someone else will have to answer that......or try it in the transfer thread.

Ill take a shot at it though; if you are going to transfer, you want to have the highest grades possible, and really rise above everyone else in your school, because you are likely coming from a less competive school than Brown. As for what happened in high school, I'm sure it doesn't matter much after the first year of college.
