Brown Class of 2019 Early Decision Applicants

jk just saw it…

I’m asking this question way too late in the game, but was a guidance counselor rec absolutely required? Of course I mean a rec apart from the document where they assess the difficulty of your course load, etc. etc. I thought I had everything in place until I looked over the Class of 2018 ED results and saw that pretty much everyone, accepted or not, mentioned one. I never saw a place on the common app to send a counselor rec, never mind language in the Brown Guide to Applying that suggested it was imperative.

Can someone assuage my fears? Pretty please?

Best: Teacher recss, personal statement, extra curriculars, contacted a professor at Brown, interview
Worst: SAT scores, class rank (Top 10% of 400), California (626) livin’

Aight: Counselor rec, course load, supplements…and Using the word “Aight” just now

I feel very trepidatious right now…Would worshipping Cthulhu help me at this point?

Best: SAT, courseload, GPA, fairly uncommon ECs, interview and one pretty kick ass rec (i think)
Worst: my essays were pretty average. heartfelt, but average. also white and from NJ but what can ya do…
in the end, who really knows what it is that determines acceptance?

@camminatore if ur guidance stuff on common app says submitted you’re allllllll gooood.

Best: ECs, recommendation letters from two prominent Brown Alum who I worked with, essays, interview, teacher recs

Worst: SAT score :/, personal statement (it’s pretty generic), average GPA (3.7)

@camminatore also, I believe that you couldn’t have submitted your common app if your guidance counselor had not sent in a letter

Best: Why Brown, difficulty of course load, teacher recs, EC’s are hella strong~, first-gen, ACT
Worst: Class rank/GPA (IB killed my transcript ugh), counselor rec (literally have no idea what she said), white/Texas

Best: Unusually interesting ECs, rockin essay (i heart my essay and supplements), awesomely awesome teacher/counselor recs, african american female, first generation, interview (MAYBE. i really couldn’t tell because of the guy’s monotony but i think it went well!)
Worst: literally everything else (average SAT, GPA, below Brown-average class rank), applying for FA

i am FREAKING. OUT. about this. but no matter where we end up, guys, know that we have worked so hard and will truly do great at whatever we do.
good news: we have each other to lean on for D-Day!

@camminatore‌ If they submitted the school report online, there is a place for them to put additional comments (which is where they can upload/paste a letter of rec). If they submitted it on paper, there are directions for them to attach a letter of rec/additional comments. Most counselors have a generic one where they just insert key details about the student, so I’m sure your counselor at least put something!

Best: Recommendation from Brown Professor, Interview, Hook (Gay in a Catholic School), Test Scores, EC’s
Worst: Class rank (Top 10th in a class of 180…), GPA

Best: Recommendations, Art Portfolio, Interview, Course Load, EC’s, Mexican, 1st Generation, South Texas (Don’t know if that’s good or not), Essays were pretty nice, Interest in Art/Science
Worst: Class Rank, GPA, Average SAT Scores, Counselor Rec (My school made me switched counselors in September, so she barely knew me)

I’d like to go to Brown, but idk. Seems unlikely

Best: Traumatic Brain Injury nearly killed me when I was younger (killer essay topic if done properly), brought my GPA from a 2.6 freshman year to 4.43 senior year, Rec from Brown Professor, Interview, test scores, ec’s,
Worst: Cummulative GPA, white/californian, class rank (placed fifth out of 125), no family legacy

Eight days!

Best: Sat scores, Brown knows my school (like they come make presentations and stuff), essay, well rounded (gymnastics, internship, job, community service…)

Worst: I’m from france so I can’t do that many ECs especially not during the whole year, can’t choose classes, white, counselor rec not sure if she liked me or not ^^

Best: Rank, GPA, essays (or at least to me lol), black female,
sibling legacy (if that’s a thing)

Worst: ACT score is average for Brown I guess, recs (didn’t get
to read them but I’ll guess they’re good enough), maybe
ECs

I’m. So. Nervous.

Best: supplements and essays, SAT scores, recommendation(?)
Worst: didn’t get 800 on SAT II Math(?), bad GPA ( barely top 10% in a highly competitive private school), Asian (more specifically Chinese), international (Canada), 2 other strong ED applicants from my school (?)…

Prepared for the worst

Good luck to all of you!!

Best: gpa, recommendation, essay(maybe?), why brown, recs, and that I’m international and part hispanic (maybe? idk, seriously there is nothing as confusing as the american system)
worst: EC’s and test scores

Thank you for the reassurance @lifeaquatic‌ @WishesBe‌ and @epancotti! I guess I’m totally overthinking everything at this point, haha.

Best: essays, ECs (MUN is life), ACT, GPA/rank, a rec from my AP lang teacher (honestly made me cry happy tears), my interview lasted two hours
Worst: SAT II’s are nothing special/didn’t take Math 2, from NJ, intended IR concentration

I’m sending good vibes to every lovely soul in this thread! xx

Meh…

Best: EC’s, unique rewards, course load difficulty
Middle: SAT, GPA, Recommendations…
Worst: Essays probably…

Expecting a deferral~ :-"

No problem, @camminatore, glad to help!
