Did not think that I would be this nervous about a college decision but… whatever

Good luck to you all.

Best: SATs, common-app essay, course load, high school reputation, teacher/counselor recs, rec from alum, interesting unique background…

Middle: GPA right on average or just slightly above (does Brown do their own GPA weighting?)

Worst: SAT II were crap. 730 Math II (?), 680 Bio (?, counselor said apparently Brown knows our school doesn’t teach to the SAT curriculum so I wouldn’t have to take it again)
Also, 4 others from my school (class size 97) are applying ED and 1 is already accepted (recruited for squash)

if we get deffered, can we submit another recomendation? My friends aunt is an alumni and she said she’d write me a rec but I didn’t get to her in time for ED. if im deferred could I get her to do it?

@ajerid: your friend’s aunt’s LOR for you is worthless at best and seen as a desperate move at worst. Why should this relative stranger to you offer an opinion that Brown would find useful? Unless she’s been your teacher or boss or mentor, the naked “alumna connection” thing would be a terrible idea.

@Tman1005 @fantasticbob : they don’t mail results unless you don’t log into your portal to access your decision.

Best: Essays, EC’s/Volunteer, Teacher Recommendations, ACT score
Worst: SAT II scores, GPA/Class Rank [not bad, but not stellar], Haven’t won many special awards

AHH guys there is basically a week left. I think it is part of our nature to feel even the tiniest bit hopeful despite knowing the realistic possibilities. I think I need to focus on calming down and getting rid of even that small glimmer of hope so I will either not be disappointed, or be surprised with good results. I feel like one moment I’m like “I wrote great essays, I HAVE HOPE!” then the next I’m like what are you thinking you don’t even have a chance LOL.

I just want to say that all of you sound like amazing people and it’s been fun getting through this whole nerve-wracking process with you. It’s actually quite a comfort to know that other people are just as new to this, just as passionate, and just as nervous! Honestly wishing the best for all of us!

@T26E4 I was under the impression they mailed everyone results, which arrived a few days after the decisions were released online. I thought last year everyone who was accepted got an acceptance letter in the mail a few days after reading their decision online, but I could be wrong. Getting into Brown is a big deal, and they understand that so I think they send everyone an official certificate of acceptance. I know last year my admitted friend (who found her decision online) received one in the mail. Plus, Brown Admissions’ Facebook page posted pictures of stacks of acceptance letters last year.

Damn @insomniac15 thanks for that. That’s really sweet of you to say. This thread has truly been awesome and there’s no doubt that everyone here will end up at an equally awesome school. If we all don’t meet at Brown, then here’s to meeting in Congress, the Goldman Sachs boardroom, med school or wherever you talented bunch of anxiety-filled CC’ers may end up.

@insomniac15 : I know you feel! Thanks for the kind words!
@Anduar3 : Aw, shucks!

Seriously, everyone who does ED is great, because ED is one of the scariest things ever: The time crunch, a little commitment phobia, and a fair amount of self-doubt a part of this process takes a toll on your mind and feels. You people are some of the bravest I know, because you overcame all of that for a moment when you submitted your ED app.
I really wish everyone the best of luck. I hope we meet someday somehow.

Side-note: I have so many regrets. I just want a do-over. Seriously, can I rewind to the beginning over summer knowning everything I know now?
Side-side-note: Are there any H.P. Lovecraft fans out there? Because if there are, do you feel like #MiskatonicOrBust right now?

@430ktk: on second thought, I may have spoken too soon. I think I’m confusing things – I’m pretty sure it’s rejection letters aren’t mailed unless the student fails to check the online decision.

Here’s the rub. I live in Oklahoma, and three of those categories could describe Oklahoma. So my question for you is: Would you consider Oklahoma to be in the South, the Midwest, or the Central US? Many people here consider it the South, and the US Census considers it the South, but I’m under the impression that people from further up north take South to mean more of the Deep South (Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, etc). But I also think Midwest is a fair description, as is Central (we are in the Central Time Zone, after all). I know that worrying about whether my area is underrepresented or not will do me no good, but just indulge me for a minute. Plus, this is actually a pretty big debate amongst Okies, so it’d be nice to hear some other perspectives. Thanks in advance!

@430ktk : Oh man, Oklahoma. Used to live there, but things may have changed since then…I always thought it was the Central or Midwest, because the culture is different from the Louisiana and Texas (used to live in Dallas too).

If anything, I live in California and am Asian-American (specifically Chinese-Vietnamese) so I don’t have much going for me.

@nac93420 Thanks, but I already knew that my region is considered by the Census as “South.” The problem is that I don’t know if Brown will be using that definition or not.

And decisions are not released on the 15th. They will be released December 11 at 5 PM EST.

Is anyone else so nervous now? I literally bookmarked brown application summary website and I’m on the website all the time. We still have a week to go… this is nerve racking.
