Two years ago, two people from my school were accepted to Brown and they both now attend Brown. They both have parents who went to Brown, which kind of concerns me lol. The father of one of them interviewed me! People with legacies stress me out because I’m literally the first person in my family to go to college in the US.Like, I’m sorry but the only legacy I have is at the University of Baghdad and I sure as heck can’t go there haha.
lol I am not US citizen and I am the first one in my fam to go to US college as well @sciencenerd123
I’ll chance you guys to the best of my ability if you’ll chance me! About to make a post
@sciencenerd123 same my parents went to school abroad and im a 1st gen here and its stressful knowing im not first gen in the strictest sense but im not getting any advantages either
^^^the struggle is real. Also, it has been so difficult to navigate the whole system because it’s completely different from what my parents had to go through.
Exactly, my parents were both unable to help me in any way while I knew there were kids who had their parents write their essays
Do people really have their parents write their essays?
@naehyun yeah i know a ton of people whose parents have. i have a friend whos mom did the entire college process for her brother and he ended up getting into every school
They were probably kids who weren’t aiming for very selective institutions, I presume?
Hello everyone. I have been stalking this thread for months, and since tomorrow we will all know our results, I just decided to create an account to formally join you guys. I am an international student studying in Virginia, and obviously, my applicant pool is much more challenging than that of the U.S. citizens. My first concentration is history and the second is religious study. Thank you for your company because you guys let me know that my anxiety is not unique but a collective characteristic of all ED applicants.
I think it is important to give ourselves some credit because we chose to ED an Ivy school and we all believe that Brown is our first choice. Whatever the results turn out, there will always be a college for all of us, and we are destined to be where we will end up going next fall. Meanwhile, I’ve just read an article that I thought would be very helpful for all of us at this point. Here is the link:http://blogdailyherald.com/2014/12/10/what-not-to-do-24-hours-before-early-decisions-come-out/
I wish everyone the best result and, should things not go our way, we are ready to tackle the RD application. I have no doubt that we are all poised to be successful in the future, however you may define success. What happens happens. Life will go on, and there are so many other great options waiting for us. Let’s never abandon hope.
Sincerely
@sciencenerd123 no, he got into schools like umich and dub and rice for engineering which makes the situation even more annoying and unfair
Welcome @DaretoDREAM2132! Good luck tomorrow! And ugh @reallytired247 that’s so annoying :/.
22 pages in 2 days. Damn son.
Hi! I’ve been stalking this for a while too. I’ll be going in expecting the worst and honestly I’ll be more annoyed at all the supplements I’ll have to write than at the fact that I’ve been denied.
All of us have worked really hard and we all will end up at a school right for us no matter what happens tomorrow!
I heard that admissions always knows if the parents write the essay. Anyway, why would anyone want to do that? They want to hear your authentic voice.
me too, but i guess it worked out for him because hes having a great time at college now. im really irked by it but what can you do i guess
Well unfairness always exists. I have seen so much unfairness before, and I think the only things we can and we should do are just do our best & don’t be unfair to others.
My DDs was 2 pages.
@reallytired247 I heard about this kid who wrote his main essay about being gay even though he’s not gay–and he got into an Ivy (don’t remember which one) and that makes me so mad.
Using minorities to your advantage in college applications is just the lowest of the low…there’s not much more disrespect of a group than that.
