@reallytired247 It really sucks that some people who have worked on their applications on their own & are more invested are rejected for people that get in using connections and their parents, but I guess that’s the real world. There’ll always be people who are advantaged over us ://
@astrobiodreams Let’s hope we’re in the former group…
@geugen That is literally the most annoying thing ever. Also in general what all of y’all are saying about people who lied their way through the admissions process… that makes me so angry in a way that so few things do, because there are so many truly amazing qualified people who could have taken that spot. A large reason why I would never lie on a college app like that is that I would never be able to live with myself knowing I’d taken the place of someone who deserved it in a way that I did not
@geugen that’s absolutely terrible. I wrote my essay on my coming out experience and it’s disgusting that someone would fake being a member of the LGBT community to have an edge in admissions.
I’m so sad that we can’t all get in… I truly believe that every last one of us would be a great fit for Brown, and I’d love to go to school with all of you.
@geugen Someone who can lie his way into an ivy-league, doing what he did with utmost precision, without the admissions officers picking up on it, deserves to be there anyhow, whether it be morally right or wrong.
@codenerd I get what you’re saying but I don’t agree at all. Someone who can lie their way into an Ivy League is unquestionably extremely intelligent and capable, and is very likely to be successful in the future, but that’s not all admission into an Ivy League is about, and they certainly do not deserve it. They are taking the place of a person who really did the things they lied about and deserves the spot much more.
Good luck to everyone from Dartmouth ED thread! We’re all in this together.
Thank you @aristicslobe, good luck to you too!
I really disagree with that! Lying may get you into college but it will not get you very far in life after that. I mean, if he lies about being gay to get a job after college he will not only be exploiting the struggles of actual lgbt people but will also be creating a false identity for himself that cannot possibly hold up once he gets married to a woman. Moral people win in the end, I think.
Yeah, no. @codenerd that logic is so flawed. Cheating on a test and doing well may be smart but it’s not morally correct and only disadvantages others unfairly. Especially in college decisions where things have such a huge weight on the rest of your life there’s no way I can possibly justify lying on an application anywhere.
Anyone who lies like that on their college apps is trash tbh. I’m outraged by the guy who claimed to be gay! What a grade-A jerk.
anyone else going for the brown/risd dual degree program ?
I think many people do achieve (temporary?) success through lying and manipulation. Again, I received a warning for discussing politics, but I think you can guess where I’m going with that. The ability to tell convincing stories that aren’t true but are impossible to identify as such can definitely help in many fields. But it does not make you deserving of anything, and in fact, the people who lie to get where they are the very definition of undeserving.
Hey guys! I’ve been freaking out for the past couple weeks and I’m super anxious as of right now… many of my friends (who are extremely qualified) have been rejected from ivys that came out in the past couple of days. I just wanted to wish everyone the best of luck and i’m crossing my fingers for a deferral at this point… if I can even get that
You’re actually the first dual degree I’ve seen since joining this thread! What kind of art do you do? @clalaore
And, the person who you may or may not be referring to is ruining a country partially due to his dishonesty.
@plzacceptme2x5 keep your chin up, bud, I don’t think you’ll be rejected right away, and there’s no way to know right now. Hoping for the best for you!
Oh @geugen I meant politicians in general. Success in politics is often very closely related to ability to lie, it seems. But you’re totally right- that does hurt the country significantly
Thank you so much @astrobiodreams I’m applying for business/entrepreneurship, wbu?
