Brown Class of 2022 Applicants Discussion

Yeah, haha, the shorter ones were actually harder to write in my opinion.

Heads up ā€“ last year, the applicant portals ALL looked different and even changed over time and none of this seemed to be predictive of anything.

@profdad2021 Do you remember when the Brown admissions decisions were released last year?

There is a thread on this forum for the ED class of 2021. Find that thread and you can see when the results came out last year.

@AverageTeen2000 it was a Wednesday, December 14 I think. 5pm but actually was available a couple minutes early

Just had my interview! Interviewer said he doesnā€™t see a reason for Brown to reject me, and that I would be a ā€œgreat addition.ā€ Told my dad that he had a ā€œvery impressive daughter.ā€ YAY! If anyone wants to know any specific (questions asked, etc) just let me know!

Please do share questions! That would be great!

@giantoctopus We did the interview at a local coffee shop. I showed up a little early & bought a hot chocolate so it wouldnā€™t be awkward when he came lol. The first thing he asked was why I applied early decision, then he asked about the open curriculum. Then he started asking about my high school experience, classes Iā€™ve taken, how Iā€™ve gotten involved throughout high school. He asked followup questions about certain extracurriculars and stuff. I talked a lot about my interests in both STEM and the humanities so he asked about how I would pursue both at Brown. Then in the middle he asked if I had any questions. After, he went back and asked me some more questions about my high school experience etc. He asked if I had any siblings, and I moved around a lot throughout my life so he asked about that. There was one weird question when he asked whether I had any backups and what other schools I am planning to apply to, but I quickly tried to steer that back to the topic of Brown. In the end, he just asked if I had anything I wanted to add that would give him a better picture of who I am. Overall, it was super chill. I think itā€™s important to remember that the interviewer is on your side! It was just a conversation. He didnā€™t have any ā€œtrickā€ questions, he just asked me to talk about my interest in Brown, what I do, and what subjects I am interested in, which are all pretty basic topics. Good luck!!!

thanks so much. just curious if he was young?

@giantoctopus nope he graduated from Brown in 1979! But he has a daughter who is a current freshman and one who graduated in 2013 so he was able to answer more current questions.

Wow I canā€™t believe thereā€™s already less than 3 weeks left until decisions are released!! Iā€™m so nervous

Just had my interview at a local Starbucks. It was, by all accounts, pretty standard. Questions he asked:

[ul]
[]Why Brown?
[
]Why are you interested in the major(s) you indicated?
[]Thoughts on the Open Curriculum?
[
]Who/what inspires you?
[]Favorite course(s) in high school?
[
]Most challenging course(s) in high school? Time that you felt the most challenged in life?
[li]Things you most enjoy at high school, i.e. sports, ECā€™s[/li][/ul]
He asked followup questions about most of my answers. The conversation flowed smoothly between most questions. There were no curveball questions.

Beyond that, he was constantly asking me if I had any questions for him about Brown. I asked about his experience at the school (major, open curriculum, social life, alumni community). We talked about how he met his wife there and the fact that their wedding was on campus. He seemed to enjoy the fact that I showed interest in his life. We eventually ran out of stuff to talk about and ended the interview. It lasted almost exactly an hour.

I had my interview on Sunday at a coffee shop and it was super chill for me! My interviewer graduated in 2011 and she started off by asking me to introduce myself but we ended up having a very long discussion where we jumped from topic to topic. I ended up leading most of the discussion then relating it to something about me/something personal and she would share something and bounce off it. In the end my interview was almost two hours and she said I seemed like a perfect candidate (then warned that I should have other options because Brown is very competitive and she canā€™t guarantee anything) and that she didnā€™t even notice the time going because we had such a nice discussion.

Looks like Brownā€™s ADOCH budget now includes ED admits

The interview has little bearing on admissions. Try not to read too much into anything so you donā€™t get your hopes up. Brown canā€™t take all the qualified students it wants to. Better if you have a hook of some kind.

this forum is horrifyingā€¦

Applying ED for PLME. The subject test information is inconsistent between the undergraduate admissions site and the PLME website. Does anyone have information from talking with the admissions office about the need for subject tests if the student applies with ACT scores?

PLME admissions will want to see at least one science/math SAT subject test score, even if you took the ACT.

@bruno14 I applied to PLME ED. I got an 800 on M2 but a 750 on Bio M. Will the 750 hurt me?

T-11days.
