@bogeyorpar Yeah, it’s probably a coincidence. I put my concentration as Biomedical Engineering and my interviewer studied History. Guess it’s a blessing and a curse–on one hand, your son will really need to articulate his passion for this subject and his knowledge because his interviewer will know so much about it, but on the other hand if he is truly very passionate/knowledgeable about the subject then he will connect more with his interviewer. I personally liked that my interviewer was totally a non-STEM person because I sounded really smart when I talked about science-y things and he had know idea what I was talking about :)).

How do people track if Brown has received all required financial aid documents? Their portal only tracks admission related checklist.

@wings17 you can’t. You could try calling Brown though.

We didn’t get the financial aid portal til a week before ED decisions came out @wings17. Not sure why.

I think bcuz Brown unlike most colleges is Need - based and doesn’t prioritize F.A whereas other schools require financial status as application criteria. @sciencenerd123 @wings17

@wings17 : Please see https://www.brown.edu/about/administration/financial-aid/idoc-questions-and-answers for details.

Everything is transferred securely using IDOC. You don’t need to worry about it once it was submitted.

I’m highly interested in Brown, but I haven’t had a chance to visit due to family reasons. Would this have a negative impact on my application?

@ashley676 : Brown does not track campus visit. Even if you sign up for a campus visit, when you arrive, there is no official sign-in. You do want to find some way to convince AOs “why Brown”, if you don’t even have a chance to visit campus.

@BrKmNk : Brown is need-blind for domestic students. For international students, need is taken into account.

lmao I think I lost my ticket into Brown by applying to financial aid
 RIP

guys i still haven’t got a interview request should i be worried? I live in maryland region where Im pretty sure there must be at least one alumni around

Also I accidentally put not applying for financial aid on commonapp and emailed them asking to change that status. They only gave un automated response and never replied. Will this negatively affect my application? If they didn’t reply can be assured that they did indeed change my status? I am so worried rn

@feast1n8 : Although I am in no way suggesting that Brown is doing the way Yale does, here is what I glean from a trusted source (@BKSquared) from a Yale thread for you to consider ( the numbers of applicants for Brown and Yale are about the same) -----

" Just some statistics for everyone stressing over what it means if you haven’t received an interview request yet. There are approximately 11,000 interviewers who collectively complete about 18,000 interviews a year. There were about 33,000 applications last year, which means almost half of all applicants did not get interviews. There are plenty of students who get in who did not get an interview, and the overwhelming majority of those who do get an interview, get rejected. There is always speculation that the interview lists are culled. I have no knowledge of that. As an interviewer, we are assigned interviewees that come from a list from the AO. "

@TheOldTimer is that implying that those who receive Yale interview requests aren’t really likely to be admitted?

It implies not such thing; in fact, it states the opposite.

One can certainly spend time speculating, because, I guess that’s what applicants like to do while awaiting decisions. However, IMO, such speculation is pointless.

@MaybeHarvard2022 : I have no insider information. I would like to repeat that I am not suggesting anything.

@TheOldTimer wow thank u for the information but this honestly makes me even more scared by the fact that I simply could have not made it passed the AO’s interview worthy list. At this point, should I assume im not getting an interview?

@feast1n8 : Brown is a reach school for everyone. As @skieurope pointed out, there is no point in speculation. If you read the “first cut” thread, you already have a pretty good idea how the whole admissions process works at top schools. Just keep your fingers crossed. Best luck to you.

As for your second question on #1052, I do believe you are not drawing good attention to your application. People who apply for financial aids need to upload a lot of other documents. It might be too late. See https://www.brown.edu/about/administration/financial-aid/idoc-questions-and-answers

@TheOldTimer Thank you again for helping me out here. I actually did submit my fafsa and IDOCs through CSS on time. Its just that i accidentally marked as no for a question on common app that asked if i intend to apply for financial aid. I notified them almost a day after deadlines about my mistake and sincerely apolgized for it. Do u know if this will still negatively affect my chances? I feel so helpless rn because this was the very school I wanted to go to and I cant believe I made this dumb mistake.
