Super nerve-wracking!!
So likely letters for STEM have not been sent yet?
@applicant1313 Brown doesnât send likelies to STEM applicants specifically
@applicant1313
You are posting the same question on all your college application blogs⊠Dartmouth, Brown, etc
RelaxâŠ,. Donât put so much emphasis on the chances of a LL.
Most people who get in donât get a LL. While it would be nice to hear back sooner, it doesnât necessarily mean anything. Take the downtime while waiting for decisions to plan a great summer before university next year!
About 10% Brown non-athletic admitted receives LL. Based on those posted on recent results thread,s such as the one from 2016: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/18230870/#Comment_18230870 and from 2015: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/18230870/#Comment_18230870 , they were well qualified, but it would need a big stretch to say they were in the top 10% of Brown admitted. Which means, LL is quite random so donât bother with it.
Just got interview notification and the interview was scheduled on 2/20. But I read somewhere the interview report will be due by 2/15. So will the interview be too late?
No. Actually it might be a good thing. Rumor has it that some emergency interviews were granted to candidates who make it to the later rounds but have not received interviews.
My alumni interview site now states that regular in-person interviews are due 2/15, âlateâ or virtual interviews are due by 3/1.
@TheOldTimer: where does this ârumorâ come from? From all I know of the Brown admissions process, very likely untrue.
@bruno14 : Actually the rumor is from past Yale threads. What are âlateâ interviews? Did those interview requests just come in?
my d just had an interview yesterday, and her interviewer said it had to be done by 2/14. but I can see how they want some last minute scheduling, because my dâs first chance at interview was actually in jan, but she couldnât make it, so someone from RI emailed her saying she wanted a phone interview later.
but i assumed it was befcause my d applied for plme
@caleegalee I am a little confused about who could not made the interview in Jan? Was it the interviewer who missed it and Brown now arranged a make up, or was it like @TheOldTimer said earlier that your DD is in the later round and Brown is kind of doing a final check? Given the time is pretty late in the game and interview does not weigh much, I would say your DD is very high up there.
@caleegalee: there arenât specific PLME interviews, so itâs just them trying their best to interview everyone.
My DD was never contacted for an interview. Doesnât bode well for her.
from what Iâve read, some people get in without an interview⊠but youâd have to be in the âacceptâ pile, not the âmaybeâ pile, so like a super strong and obvious accept applicant. So donât completely give up hope yet.
My DD has also not yet been contacted for an interview. We are in NorCal.
Is that really true though? I talked to an admission counselor from a similar top 20 undergraduate school that also interviews most of their candidates, and they say that not having an interview wonât effect anything.
Pretty much, the general gist was that if there was an alumni interviewer who had time, you would get an interview. In areas where a lot of kids apply, or in rural areas, not all top kids may get interviews.
I think its a bit too early to make hasty conclusions about your âsupposedâ chances.
Here is the official statements from Brown regarding First-Year Applicants Alumni Interview âŠ
You can decide for yourselves in reality what is likely to happen with 30K plus applicants.
=========================================
A conversation with one of our volunteer alumni interviewers is an excellent way for you to learn more about Brown and for us to learn more about you.
After we receive your application, the Alumni Interviewing Program manages the interview process and provides your contact information to alumni interviewers in your area.
You do not need to request an interview; a volunteer will contact you to arrange a convenient time and place for the interview. Communications will come directly from the alumni interviewerâs personal email, as opposed to an official Brown University email. Please be sure to check your email account, spam filter and voicemail box.
Some areas host interviewing day events where applicants are asked to choose a time slot in which to meet with an alumnus/a. Communications regarding these events may come from a local interview coordinator using software like SignUpGenius.
All interviews, whether in-person, at interviewing day, by phone or by Skype/G-Chat are considered equally by the Office of College Admission.
We do not provide alumni/ae with your application materials; your interviewer only receives your contact information and intended concentration, and you do not need to bring a resume or additional materials to the interview.
After the conversation, the volunteer will send us his or her thoughts about your personal strengths, which we will add to your application file.
Early Decision interviews run from late October through early December and Regular Decision interviews run from December through early March.
Although we try to arrange interviews with as many candidates as we can, it ultimately depends upon the availability of our worldwide network of alumni volunteers. If it is not possible to arrange an interview, rest assured that it will not negatively impact your application to Brown. Brown does not accept interviews conducted by third parties.
While we enjoy meeting prospective students when they come to campus, we regret that the large volume of visitors makes it impossible for us to offer on-campus interviews.
Alumni interview questions may be sent to interviewing@brown.edu.
@applicant1313 in light of rejections at uva and unc I doubt she is in the accept pile
My DD also has not been contacted. Donât want to stress her out. Hoping it doesnât mean anything. Weâre in western PA, BTW.
