Brown Class of 2022 Applicants Discussion

Anyone other RD applicants now have access to Financial Aid on the portal?

@MaybeHarvard2022 My FA link just appeared today. RD applicant. No Interview request yet though.

You can speculate or base your analysis and expectations on facts supported by the experience of those (PLME with no legacy and no questbridge and NO INTERVIEW) ahead of YOU!

Students can get into PLME without an interview because the interview is for Brown undergraduate admissions, not PLME. The medical school decision is based on whether they want you for the medical school. No idea why the medical schools doesn’t offer interviews as part of their decision making, but whether or not a student has an alumni interview for Brown undergraduate has nothing to do with the PLME decision.

@MaybeHarvard2022 whoa, i also got access to the financial aid portion, but it seems to just be a checklist, no aid award or any messages posted. I’m an RD applicant who already had my interview. To the interview speculators: about half of the selective schools I applied to I’ve interviewed at. The ones I had an interview with seemed almost random, no real correlation (i.e. I got a Princeton interview, but not a UPenn interview. Do I think that’s at all related to my respective chances at those schools? No. I’m in the ‘interviews, or lack of them, don’t matter a lot’ category of speculators).

I applied RD as well and now have access to FA. I had my interview a few weeks ago- which was phenomenal might I add (lasted 2 hours!). However, I’m sure there isn’t a correlation between having FA access and our decisions.

@MaybeHarvard2022 @applicant1313 I have it too but does it mean anything if FA and admissions are seperate

@Lemonade22 I know. was just curious

@MaybeHarvard2022 I have the financial aid link. I don’t recall if it was there in the past. I applied RD and I had my interview in the first week of January.

hello everyone! I’ve applied to Brown and done my interview. I have just been offered an internship position at a very prestigious organization for a month in the Summer and I am also currently applying for a couple sustainability short programs that will take place over the summer. Should I submit an update to my application to Brown with this information? Do you think it would help improve my chances of getting in (I have good grades and lots of extra-curriculars already listed and discussed in my application)?

@SusChangeMaker Congrats! I think you should submit the information. It definitely can’t hurt your chances.

@SusChangeMaker the only update I sent was to MIT, but that was because I got deferred there, but if you feel the internship is important to you, then go ahead and email it to them. Like arivera1 said, it can’t hurt.

@SusChangeMaker : Yes, it definitely won’t hurt your chances. It won’t help either. My understanding is that AOs are focusing on what you have accomplished. If you have won a new award or published a new poem/book, it will help.

@SusChangeMaker : May I add that when AOs review candidate files, they always read it with a context, using socioeconomic status of applicants as part of that context. These days many public schools have had to curtail or eliminate extracurricular activities and/or athletic teams. In addition, many students cannot afford expensive musical instruments or other expensive activities. They understand that many families don’t have the resources to pay for lessons, summer programs, etc.

Admissions Committees keep these factors in mind as they review applications, and are concerned only how well students used the resources available to them. If those programs you mentioned admit participants not based totally on merits, it could backfire on the committee table. It is just for your consideration. You are definitely “in the running”. Best luck to you.

I would only update if you are actually going to do the internship you have
not that you have been “offered” - that you have “been offered and accepted.” And I would not put in things you applied for
you could have applied for anything, but until you have something, it doesn’t matter.

Does anyone know any case that a PLME applicant was admitted in RD as a regular admit instead of PLME admit? (rejected by PLME)

@TheOldTimer i dont know anyone personally, but it is possible and has happened

Has anyone started to hear back from Brown RD?

@momclassof2018 i think we all hear back on the same day -March 28th
