Brown Class of 2022 Applicants Discussion

I feel like which schools interview you and which don’t is truly related to their alumni prescence in your area (not just alumni, alumni willing to interview) so don’t sweat where you get interviews. I got an interview for Brown, Princeton, Yale, and Dartmouth yet none for Harvard or Columbia, or UPenn, etc. I don’t think it affects your chances as long as you didn’t say no to an interview request.

What do you guys think about this?
I emailed the interview department email around the beginning of March because I hadn’t received an interview request yet. They emailed back saying they’d follow up with my interviewer.
I then got an email from an alumni, and we set up a phone interview on the 7th. I thought it went well — it was a good natural interview. Near the end of the conversation, it went something like this:

Interviewer: “… and that of course depends on your admissions decision, which seems to be likely. Wait you’ve received a likely letter, right?”

Me: “Uh, no?”

Interviewer: “Oh. I probably shouldn’t be telling you this then, but I was procrastinating on all my interviews, and yours was the only one they contacted me to make sure I did, saying you were a ‘high-interest applicant’.”

It very easily could just be that she thought the interview department following up with her (and calling me “high interest” in reference to MY high interest since I emailed them pushing for one), or it could be an actual good sign that admissions wanted her to interview me, and she got the sense they were highly interested in me. This just stressed me out more lol.

@redchicken101 all I can say is I hope it turns out the best for you, just like I say to everyone else on this site :slight_smile:

@IlluminatiIsReal where did you get the info that Cornell comes out at 7pm? (also is that the 28th or 29th) Just wondering, thx!!

@gingerbread1999 Here is the link: https://admissions.cornell.edu/news/regular-decision-notification-6

It’s 28th March.

Here is the link for Princeton: https://admission.princeton.edu/how-apply/application-dates-deadlines

I recently got a likely letter from Brown. Does anyone know how “likely” I actually am to being admitted?

@pencil123 your admitted as long as nothing significant changes from now until ivy day

Congrats @pencil123 you’re essentially accepted. When did your letter/phone call arrive? What are your stats?

@jojomojo
I m sorry but that alum is a psycho. Who on earth does 4-hour college alumni interviews?!?

@IlluminatiIsReal thank you SO much!

@jeffrandell what is something that would be considered “significant”? And @redchicken101 the letter was dated Feb. 22, but I don’t think it actually came till early March. And I have extremely average stats which is why this was such a pleasant surprise, though I think my essays and ecs were really good.

Will there be another round of likelies??? Not expecting one but it would be nice to know around what time I should be checking my mailbox lol

What state are you from @pencil123

@pencil123. Congrats! That’s awesome! :slight_smile:

@pencil123 when?

Unsure if anyone has brought this up already, but the group of students accepted to Brown ED2022 was ~70% female and ~30% male (source: alumni interviewer who received an email from Brown Admissions with aforementioned statistics). So I would expect male-identifying students have a bit of an edge in the RD pool…

It’s not quite as extreme as 70% female. According to the Brown Daily News there were 738 ED acceptances of which 430 are female and 308 are male. That’s about 58% female vs 42% male. https://news.brown.edu/articles/2017/12/early

And that was pretty much the case the year before as well. It’s just that more females apply to Brown ED.

Does anyone know the 2017 RD sex breakdown? How did was sex breakdown overall last year? thanks

Brown current student here. Likely letters are essentially acceptances, and I can confidently say how u do on ur interviews don’t matter a bit. Interviews for ivy leagues are mostly just courtesy for applicants. I completely bombed mine and got accepted RD. Good luck!
