@baltimoreguy My son was accepted and he had multiple docs added to his financial aid portal in early March. Brown also appeared in the IDOC schools list in early March.
@baltimoreguy Unfortunately people who were rejected last night may be reluctant to post and in some cases “ghost” the thread. Consequently you will tend to get responses from people who were accepted and had docs added. It suggests a false correlation given a skewed sample pool.
Give people their space and go back and see who hasn’t been back in the thread and you will be able to identify that movement in FA doesn’t correlate to acceptance.
Sis Accepted, multiple lines under financial aid
1550 SAT, 36 ACT, 800 Math 2, 780 Literature, 780 Physics
11 APs, 4s or 5s in all test taken so far, NHS, National Merit Commended, multiple clubs
Congrats and condolences, y’all. There is honestly no way to know how the school chose from so many outstanding candidates. If you applied to Brown, and you think you had the slightest chance of acceptance, that means that you are truly among the top students in the country, whether you were accepted or not. Keep the focus and pride in your work that got you to this point and you will succeed, no matter where you go to college.
Rejected…honestly quite sad, even though I’ve still been accepted into a few colleges. Brown was my dream school
Congrats to everyone who got in.
@baltimoreguy my daughter was rejected. I had reported earlier that in her FA portal it was listed that she had incomplete document for her CSS. However, at the top, it said she had no outstanding requirements. No one from FA reached out to us to clarify or request the additional documents. I had a strong feeling that she wasn’t considered for admission and therefore, they didn’t need to pursue it. Unfortunately I was correct. For reference, another Ivy did reach out and asked us for additional documents and she was accepted early to that school. She was very sad about Brown because that was her top choice. However, she’s happy with the school she did get into. This could be an isolated incident but in my opinion, there is some correlation between FA requests and admissions.
@sdlivin2019 there was some correlation when my son was accepted a couple of years ago as well. I think in the last day or two, once Brown has uploaded the decisions, there is a connection between the portal and the decision. Would love to verify one way or the other
i got in!! and just for the record i want to say that the tea leave about the FA portal having multiple docs other than the CSS and FAFSA is true
For anyone just wanting clarification for this year or next year’s applicants trying to work this all out about the FA portal: it might mean something, but it does not mean everything! When I checked my portal yesterday, I had only the FAFSA and CSS files available, and I immediately assumed the worst (as everyone was saying that was what it meant). But when it came time to check, I WAS ACCEPTED! Aside from it meaning nothing at all, which is a possibility, I think that this financial aid list is only representative of a decision for those who qualify for this aid. I, on the other hand, didn’t qualify for aid based on the information in my FAFSA and CSS, so they didn’t request any extra documents. They might still request the extra information from admitted students who have estimated aid, if the trend of people above saying that they had the documents and were then accepted, and that might indicate decisions early. But, again, if you don’t qualify for aid, the lack of documents is NOT the end of the world! Hope this helped any future admits who were as freaked as I was
Anyone heard from TheGuy1 ? He had been fairly prolific and then pooooof.
@Nocreativity1 His profile says he’s in time out. Remember, though, that he was in weeks ago:
@Nocreativity1 he was banned
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
He’s not banned.
TIPS ON GETTING IN TO BROWN
Applied to Brown this year ED, and was deferred (like most of the people who applied ED) but I was recently accepted RD!!!
For anyone reading this who is applying next year, deferred does NOT mean rejected. If you are deferred, it just means that the admissions office thinks you have a good chance of making it into the class, but they are not sure yet. Brown recently has started deferring less students and rejecting more, as it is shifting its policy to denying “early decision applicants who would not be competitive in regular decision rather than deferring them” - from the Brown Daily Herald.
If you get deferred, make sure to send an extra letter of recommendation from a teacher or a mentor, and also send an update letter (if you want to increase your chances of getting in, tell them in the letter that if you get in, you will 100% attend).
Good luck everyone!!!
This is a little late, but I was rejected. 34 ACT, 4.0 UW GPA, 4.25 W GPA. Congratulations to everyone who got in!
Sis will not be attending in the Fall, Brown won’t budge on financial aid she is devastated
Do appeals work for Brown?
^ If you can provide competing documentation from a peer institution appeals are considered.
They just matched our daughters aid package- actually beat the other offer from another ivy by a few hundred dollars. Daughter handled the process by herself- but it seemed easy and straightforward. Only took 2 days to get the response. Good luck!
Congratulations Vegas1… so is she going to attend Brown?
