Not sure the ED application number necessarily effects overall yield as noted above. By contract, yield for ED accepts should be close to 100%. Unless Brown decides to take a higher percentage of its class from the ED pool, thus affecting yield mix between early and regular, yield would likely stay the same, as would available regular slots…
FYI – Dave Barry just posted an interesting article about how there is a protest occurring at Brown today by black students regarding the admissions process. Apparently the % of black students is less than it was in 1968 when the first walk-off happened…
am super nervous
Blackbeard- sorry I should have explained why the higher ED applications are likely to lead to higher yields. It is the effect of Brown Promise that the admissions department pointed to as a root cause for the jump (versus 5% at Yale). The likely effect of Brown Promise means that fewer kids will have to decide based on economics. This initiative avoids student indebtedness. It also is likely to increase over all applications. Lastly Brown may take more students ED which will enhance yield given the inflated applicant pool.
Just some thoughts based on the info the admissions office is putting out.
is brown going to eventually tell us beforehand when they will release decisions or just drop them?
any idea how soon? How do you know? Im nervous as you can tell haha
Does anyone know of notification date ?
@EduIsTheMove honestly idek anymore. it seems like all the other ivies and top schools have given a set date and time for when decisions are coming out, but brown still hasn’t. maybe they’ll send us an email with the day soon!! keeping my fingers crossed
should be consistent with other ivies, around next week.
Hi all, Like you, my S19 applied ED to Brown. I have done some “detective” work on Brown ED threads from previous years and it seems that they email applicants the day before to notify them to check their applicant portal at 6pm the following day. I spoke with someone in the admissions office last week who told me that, at the time, the applicant portal would show the applicant’s checklist, with green checkmarks indicating materials received. The financial aid paragraph, beneath the checklist, changed yesterday, adding a link where applicants can review the checklist for financial aid documents. Please note that while FAFSA and CSS profiles are requested for everyone, IDOC materials (tax returns, W-2s) are not requested from everyone. I don’t know why this is but believe from what I’ve read that IDOC materials are requested when more detail is needed based on information in the FAFSA and CSS profile materials. Whether IDOC materials are or are not requested has nothing to do with admissions.
The person I spoke with in the admissions office said that once the portal is updated with decisions, this information will appear at the top of the applicant’s portal page.
Am hoping this information is helpful to you. Waiting is very hard. Best of luck to you all during the admissions process!
I have not seen any dates anywhere, but assuming all Ivies will release decisions on the same day, December 13th. My friend did ED at another Ivy and received an email saying decisions will come out that exact day.
To confirm does this mean I have to submit all of the required forms from the financial aid link under the checklist in the portal ? Mine says it was due November 6, does that mean I’m screwed ? I haven’t submitted my FASFA or CSS yet apparently. Should I have already completed those? Will me not completing my FA info hurt my chances of admittance? Will admissions hold it against me or see the fact I didnt turn it in. Somebody help!!
Incorrect assumption. While Ivy League schools release RDs on the same date, they are not obligated to do so for ED/SCEA.
@edulsthemove – Brown is truly need blind, so the admissions and financial aid processes are totally separate. That said, due dates for financial aid materials allow accepted applicants to receive both their acceptance and financial aid letters at the same time. I am not an admissions/financial aid officer, but it seems to me that if you are offered admissions by Brown and the financial aid office does not have your materials, they will request them. That said, I would urge you to complete the FAFSA and CSS profile process asap, so that Brown can upload the information. Hope this helps.
Your sure it won’t hurt my chances ?
@edulsthemove - I can’t say I am sure because I am not an admissions officer. Still, remember that Brown is one of the truly need blind schools. Admissions decisions are NOT based on financial aid information. In the event you are one of the fortunate souls who is accepted and financial aid then gets involved, they will ask for your materials. Better to get that done now. The forms aren’t that awful to fill out but the FAFSA process does involve getting a federal student aid ID number, which takes a few business days. You can only complete the FAFSA once you are assigned this number. For your peace of mind, I suggest getting this done asap. It will involve you and your parents.
@EdulsTheMove - It does no good to worry about whether it will hurt your chances. Just focus on getting it done.
Didn’t the email say we weren’t going to be able to access the checklist at 8? Cause I still see mine…should I be seeing something different?
same
hey folks,
does anyone have any clue when ED decisions 2023 might be posted?
it says mid-december, so i’m guessing 10th-20th but still…
