What did you guys write your common app essays about?
Wrote mine about the secret ingredient in my family’s wonton soup recipe, which has been passed down for generations.
Hey everyone! Currently a first-year at Brown. I remember feeling exactly as you all probably do one year ago. I know your nerves are likely feeling all sorts of ways right now, but if you have any queries/questions, let me know!
@gingerbread1999 Do you remember how the application materials checklist in the portal goes down before decisions are released? How long before decisions were released did the checklist go down last year?
hey folks,
does anyone have any clue when ED decisions 2023 might be posted?
it says mid-december, so i’m guessing 10th-20th but still…
Did music play when you opened the decision?
@apmaster10 i just checked and my checklist is no longer showing
I know - I wonder how long it took last year between when the checklist went down and when decisions were posted
@curiousdissent they always release by the 15th
Guys what are all your stats like? I just wanna get a last minute idea so I can prepare myself lol…
Do you guys know what the general percentage is for ED deferral?? Honestly, I have a gut feeling that is going to be the decision.
@FutureIvyStudent No, no! Don’t do that to yourself!! I’m sure your stats are good enough and do not compare to anyone else’s. Once you reach the average merit, they stop caring about merit and focus on focus on other things like EC’s, leadership, accomplishments, & essays!!
Deferral rate is usually around 60%. Last year only 3.8% of deferred applicants were ultimately accepted. For the vast majority, deferral amounts to a soft rejection. Sorry to sound all gloom and doom, but facts are fact.
Honestly, it is okay. I would rather get deferred up front than rejected.
I’d rather be accepted up front.
Agree that a deferral is better than a rejection (and acceptance best of all!). However, as a practical matter, given the extremely low acceptance rate for deferred applicants, I think you really have to move forward as if you had been rejected and put Brown out of your mind as much as possible. Don’t let it impact on your RD applications. If you have a strong second choice school that does ED 2, you need to seriously consider going that route.
hi everyone! based on when results went up last year, i predict that we’re going to have our decisions by next thursday (dec. 13th). good luck!
@FutureIvyStudent
state:Montana
ACT:34
SAT II: 750 Bio E and 760 Lit
Essays: Awesome, about turtles, socks and the meaning of life + thermodynamics.
You shouldn’t worry I think once you have the ACT/SAT/ GPA you are okay. It really is holistic. I just gave stats because I know it makes me feel better! You’ll be fine. If you have an awesome ED 2 (Pomona for me) and Safeties (NYU/UVA). You will be fine !!!
UVA for OOS is hardly a safety. Neither is NYU.
Does everyone have a banner ID?
@Trixy34 I am from an underrepresented state and qualified. Maybe not a safety, but definitely a match.
