Brown Class of 2026 Waitlist

Wish you hear good news soon!

We know someone who got off the waitlist at Brown last year right around Memorial Day so good luck to those still hoping this year. I’m assuming at somewhere like Brown where they might meet their target May 1st, it takes a few weeks, as movement might only happen after those enrolled at Brown get off another Waitlist and then let Brown know they are going elsewhere.

Has anyone heard about any movement on WL?

I just mailed ds grad announcements w college committed to named on it and also ordered a sweatshirt from that school - so we should hear from Brown any day now

I called the school to see when and how long it would take to notify. They said that it would take the summer to get through! I’m praying my kid is one of the first rung so we can hear sooner rather than later.

Did they say if they have started yet?
Also, DS got a new award today - do they still want to hear about that?

Definitely send on a short note updating on the award and reaffirming that they would attend if accepted.

I don’t think it’s the award itself that makes a difference but it’s an opportunity to go “remember me? I still love you”

Why is this year so late, or is it that the first wave had already gone out and none of the ppl noticed the forums? The latest in recent years they released was May 16th, and most years were like May 11th or 12th.

Princeton closed admission from WL though, one parent shared.

Yea not talking about princeton. Brown goes to waitlist usually at this time, sending their first wave, Brown goes to waitlist every year no matter how the yield was

This is likely due to the lack of WL movement “upstream”. If Brown didn’t overestimate their yield too much, there won’t be many admissions via WL due to errant initial admission estimates. The likely source of WL movement would then come from other schools inviting Brown enrollees to join their classes. Mainly HYPSM. But also another 10-15 universities and LACs where Brown could lose at least a decent number of cross admit battles

If they don’t have many spots right now, from their perspective, there’s nothing to lose in waiting for WLs to close at other schools. There will be enough WLers willing to hang around to the bitter end to fill any hole they may have. That may not be true if they had 150 spots to fill and 4 of them were [quirky specific need here]. They can be more confident if there are 50 spots and only 1 [same quirky specific need above].

In recent years Brown admitted 30-194 waitlisted students. 2020 being the highest due to covid and high deferral rate, and 2021 being the lowest, just 34 students were admitted (where it came in a single wave at May 12th). If this year’s delayed waitlist activity was due to lack of WL movement upstream, then we might be in a even poorer circumstance than last year (fewer than 30 admits)

Wondering if anyone has any news on Brown WL?

Nothing!
Anyone else?

One friend said he was told Brown closed the WL

who did he hear it from?

Thanks. We have never gone through the process. I hope they eventually tell the kids on the list it is over. Closure is helpful.
