Brown wouldn’t frown on you taking a new SAT II. They don’t frown on you retaking the SAT, why would they frown on you taking a new SAT II?

I (still) want to edit the language of my last post, but for some reason I can’t change it.

Anyways,

My only point was that while Brown will accept new SAT IIs, you should not take the SAT II physics if you had received college credit for physics.

The best answer would be from Brown.

so neu2nu, i should just call brown and ask them? i had gotten a 5 on the physics b (i can get out of 1 semester of intro physics), so would there be a point in taking the physics sat II? i want to show brown something that will supplement my 5 because i dont have a physics class this year due to scheduling conflicts.

I know my HS posts my AP scores on the transcript. (as well as my SAT scores). While it is not an official, colleges still get my AP scores.

I would definitely call Brown. The worst you can get is a loosely phrased statement.

Another question is if you are trying to get into a science major at Brown?

i thought that brown was fairly competitive for comp. sci.; i don’t know about natural sciences/math. several kids from my school last year were able to get in with 3.6 GPAs for math; granted they were AIME qualifiers, so that is something to consider

Applying…

I am considering applying. I was thinking about Yale a lot last year but I’ve found some other schools that are a better fit for my situation and what I want out of my college experience. Brown is probably the most “difficult” of the schools I’m considering so I know it’s a reach. If I don’t get in it’s really not a big deal since the other schools I’m looking all have programs that I’m highly interested in. Good Luck to everyone!

Possibly applying. Again. I applied in High School but who knows, it might just be on a whim if I do for transfer.

Brown was my top choice out of high school and I wasn’t accepted, now I am applying as a transfer from UC Berkeley. Midway through my sophomore year with a 4.0 so far (I will have approx. 54 units by the end of this year)… I do a lot of EC’s (College dems, Hispanic/Ethnic club, etc.). I am a Philosophy, Latin American Studies, and Russian major and if it helps at all I speak three languages. My High School stats: 3.7 unweighed (4.3w) GPA/ 2010 SAT (not that this should matter much)… btw I am an international student from Mexico.

I have a 4.0 from a community college in California, and I think I might apply. It’s people like you ^ who get 4.0’ at Berkeley who ruin it for everyone else!

Two of my siblings applied to Brown as transfers, one in 2005 and one in 2007. Yes, the admissions standards vary from year to year, but my sister (who tried to transfer from Georgetown with a 3.9) was denied admission. However, my brother transferred from U. Illinois with a 3.8 and a 3.5 high school GPA. Brown is pretty much a crap shoot no matter how qualified you are. They’re looking to admit individuals, not scores/GPAs. A good GPA/test scores will help in comparing you with other viable candidates, but you have to be an interesting person to even get considered to be compared.

Are there any stats about success of 1st year freshman transfers? If accepted, are they more likely to be assigned to spring enrollment? And we are talking about a freshman that may have well over 30 credits between courses and AP credits.

mcgiller makes a great point about not admitting stats - these schools could be full of students with the highest possible scores, but the process needs great individuals.

IDk, I’m a freshman and trying to transfer to Brown also. Here at Duke, I’m finding the conservative environment extremely limiting. . . and have no interest in becoming a doctor or investment banker, which this school is good for producing.
I don’t like the partying scene, and wish there were more cool, tolerant, out of the box type kids. idk if transfering to Brown next year would mean more friends, and make me at all happier.
Is it worth it to transfer just because I’m not fitting in? Is Brown a school where I can fit in?? (well, I guess I want to go to Brown to pursue something more “artsy” too)
I’m thinking a majoring in English, philosophy, studio art/criticism, or greek, and will probably get three As and one C this semester. . . (probably this gpa is too low, sigh, but maybe it’ll go up next semester)
I think I’m going to apply to brown this year, & maybe columbia. . . but if things don’t work out, guess I’m just fated to spend my years at Duke.

I have a 3.6 and hoping for a 4.0 this semester. I’ve done research since feb. and im a sophomore. High school was a terrible time for me, and SATS sucked. Browns website said they look for personal growth lol I think I have done alot of that. I am taking a Graduate course at my school right now, and a few upper level courses. Any ideas? providing I have great Recs and good essays?

i’ll be applying! Good luck to all of us!

i am also applying… penn state mont alto is not a place for a person who lived in the city her whole life … i was born in africa but in the city… i k=live in jersey city second most populated city behind newark and 3 minutes tops to new york city… there is lots more but look at my threads you will find some more…

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!! :)

I will most likely be applying (either econ or applied math econ)

I am just quite worried about my EC cause I am in a quarter systerm, there are only 2 terms which is about 6 months for me to really DO SOMETHING BIG AND WORTH TO WRITE in this short time, neither I could take any leadership positions…confused

The only thing I’m worried about is my high school SAT score. I’ll be applying as a junior transfer but I’m still scared that it will end up haunting me. It wasn’t bad, probably average, but definitely not as high as most Brown acceptances. I’m debating on whether or not to retake it.
